Zombies on road
Why... Why does there have to be a hoard every 20 metres

Iirc, there's around a million people within 100 miles of the area the game takes place in. Plenty of zombie fuel.
I get that but for the game it turns hordes and zombies from a danger to just an annoyance.

I get it if there was a single big horde on a rare occasion, but not encountering one every minute.

Even if you clear it they are back in a few days. Doesnt help that when you need to go off road to avoid car wrecks your car slows down to a walking pace (thats not how cars work on a bit of grass) which means you get swarmed.

It would be a big quality of life improvement if there werent so many zombies on the roads at all times. Took me and my mate hours to do a journey which should have taken 15 minutes cause of the sheer number of them.

Likely a game mechanic. Rally Group Settings in the sandbox.

I set mine to this:
Start with apocalypse settings and change:

Rally Group Size 75 default
Rally Travel Distance 20
Rally Group Separation 25 <---this one sets distance from next (MAX 25)
Rally Group Radius 8

Look around you, we are surrounded by people. You can't go far before you wander into someone. In a zombie apocalypse... you're going to see zombies who were all those people. Many would have died on the roads, in pile ups as people lost control or their bodies or were bodied by someone they were transporting. Noise brings curious people, more people die... an they end up, existing there until someone, like you, comes along. Enjoy.

Also the zombies dont move at all. We both died due to a horde of sprinters and we came back days later and all the zombies (including one of our corpses) was still there. So they just stay in place rather than migrating on the roads.

It just ruins the game this way. Of course roads shouldnt be clear but there seems to be more zombies on the roads than in urban areas.

I should also mention these are like highways not just roads in towns

Well, what were your zombie settings? If their memory is set to low, they will forget what they were chasing pretty fast and just go back to meandering.

I suggest maybe starting up your own play through and have a look through all of the settings and I say this with absolute love my friend! Everyone has their own idea of the perfect zombie apocalypse. I personally hate anything that can run so I don't even turn those on (I am a coward lol)

Seriously, the settings give you a LOT of control over the distribution and behaviour of the AI.

In my current game, with the settings i chose...

I am in muldraugh trying to base up the First Baptist Chapel. Just a log wall to start.

IT HAS BEEN THREE WEEKS in game and every time i kill a horde, i get sick (zombie stink) then as i collect bodies, i pile five on a fire. 20 more roll in. I kill them, burn 5. evacuate smell area. come back kill 20 more zombies. burn five. 20 more roll in. rinse repeat.

In 3 weeks they still roll in on me but i feel i am making headway. and soon i will have the entire chapel walled off with a 20 tile diameter log wall.

A grueling task. I love zombies in my zombie game.

And I walked from rosewood to muldraugh, knowing the zombies will be heavy on the way, knowing my task will be weeks as i slowly chip away at the areas dead. spawn and respawn movements. helicopters, meta events all messing up my plans and making it even more fun.

This game has no other danger than the zombies currently, so the zombies need to be spread evenly to give a sense of danger.
Once NPCs are added perhaps NPC groups will clear some areas from zombies, making them less evenly spread out, at the cost of having to fight human enemies, but for now it is what it is.

One of the mods I have (brita I think) adds gas masks which prevent corpse sickness. It also adds loads of other cool stuff, I recommend it :)

Mods are awesome, I agree, but this is an online vanilla server for that character. Unfortunate.

If you want you can turn off zombie respawns. The zombies are probably migrating on the roads because of noise. You should also be able to tweak migration settings in the options menu.
