OMG Level 5 Foraging really changes the game!
I have a stable run going and just crossed over into November. I am pretty stacked up on other XP so I started foraging. I had a boost from reading Foraging vol 1 before watching Outdoor Exposure. In no ways grindy and soon I was up to level 5. Suddenly I am finding loot like this in an afternoon! LET'S GOOOOooooo!

You are probably in an area with rich resource. I leveled my foraging by picking stones off the road lol.

Foraging is one of the fastest skills to level, and worth it. You can max it without books even without too much effort. Save those bugs you find, you can use them for fishing later on.

So you spent an afternoon and found a tonne of useless garbage worth about 1/100 of calories spent finding it. well done. Feel free to dump it all into a nearby garbage bin.

None of that loot is particularly valuable. The bugs you've gathered unfortunately cannot be used for stick traps, so they're only fishing fodder (while fishing rods are a limited resource).

Mushrooms and berries are very low calorie for the amount of hunger they fill.

The edible herbs give a slight happiness/boredom buff to food, but that stops being a problem if you go outside regularly.

I've never had cause to use the non-edible herbs. Ripped Sheets work just fine.

Now, being able to walks a few feet and have the materials for a couple Stone Axes, on the other hand...

Damn dude, you must have some crazy sh*t going on in your life to be so mean like this for no reason. I hope whatever you're going through gets better, I mean that sincerely. Much love brother.

Also OP thanks for sharing this, I always assumed Foraging was a crappy skill so in 250+ hours of time played I've never once leveled it. Looks like I'm starting a fresh save today!

I would use every one of those things in my play though. May I borrow a fistful that of lemongrass?

Never really tried foraging until this thread, works pretty well

You kinda do eventually need to either farm EN MASS or fish...but foraging can get you supplies to make spears even if you can't get into town proper so it still helps.

If you can live that long in the first place you can probably spare the time to grind up fishing. it's more painful if it's already winter and you don't have a pile of bait and rods/twine/line but you can still grind it up.

Nah.. I am just south of the gated community in Riverside. But it is November and trees have started to some up awfully fast, so maybe the item spawn is changing

OK. Thank you! I am also going to set up a fishing camp for the first time. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't but the bugs in Stir Fry! Can I keep them in the freezer?

They don't rot. You may keep bugs anywhere. (Maggots by default will delete from ground i think...)

Bruh... I am so stacked for calories, the diversity in diet alone is worth scoutin' through the woods!

With 9 Axes and 22 Duct Tape, I'm not really concerned with Chipped Stone.
