Avoid any visibility from that helicopter then it'll eventually go away, but be careful if this time it didn't see, there will be a next time. Just stay in that house and do what you can do. Only escape into the woods when the helicopter sees you.

Wait till the end of the day is what I did, I was in a school at the time it came.

The helicopter event usually doesn't last more than a few hours, so if you weren't found you can just stay inside for a bit. The aftermath, though, would be a problem if you aren't prepared.

Even if you weren't found, it will still attract a lot of zombies to the area around you. So, be careful if you decide to go out as you will more than likely have to deal with hordes of zombies.

If you have supplies in the house you're in, haven't been spotted, and are a bit nervous about facing the potentially huge horde outside in the immediate aftermath then you might wait a bit longer. Some of them will eventually wander off, but i rarely have the patience to wait long enough to see if they all basically do. Make sure you have an escape route, or possibly several, planned to get out of the house in the first place in case the horde tries to break in though. They can sometimes come from unexpected places you initially thought would be clear. Once died to looting the house and forgetting to double check the alarms i found weren't set...so of course one went off while i was waiting out the heli-horde still.

Go to the most interior room of your house.

Have it be a 2nd floor home

Read a book

DO NOTHING ELSE

If the Helicopter hears any noise from you it'll lock on

Ya most of the time the helicopter sounds like it left then comes back shortly after as if it went to fuel up, so be patient before going out.
I usually have a vehicle and go for a long drive away from my home base as the helicopter will follow you and zombies follow helicopter

The aftermath was a pain in the ass tbh, my chopper circled around my base and group of zeds were here and there, had to spent the following days to clear em out one by one and I couldn't go in my base as well. Was put on the pressure of having a thunderstorm coming soon in few days. That's my experience with that noisy bugger.

i have never been caught by this helicopter and i have no idea what this bastard looks like so most of the time when i hear the heli i start panicking and running into the woods like a maniac :steamhappy:

Usually its better to stay, because being in the open will make the helicopter follow you around and attract zeds to you from surrounding spaces, so the woods won't really conceal you much. Wait a day after you first heard the heli, maybe read a skill book. The next day, you can try to leave. Be wary of the zeds breaking into the house on the 1st floor.
