How to stop being chased?
Brand new, on my 2nd character in Rosewood after failing miserably in Muldraugh and watching some guides. After spawning in the first house and getting what I need, I head out in search for the next house or building to loot, but every time I get noticed by zombies. So I run (or walk) away from them, hopping fences and going the trees to try to lose them. Then I find another house, but before I can go inside I get noticed by more zombies. So I run away from them. Then get noticed by more before I can do anything. Repeat infintely.

This whole experience for me so far has just been me slowly walking away from zombies and not being able to actually play the game. What do I do?

So, it's perhaps an inobvious answer, but.. Make more noise, Press Q.

You are, as you may have noticed, faster than zombies even when walking. So you can lure them pretty far without exhausting yourself, then run back so you get far away from them and get out of their line of sight quickly.

So, Lure zombies from the whole street down to the tree line, slip away from them and go back to the start of the street; Now you've cleared away all/most zombies that might notice you, and you can deal with any stragglers pretty well with your hands n feet while you loot homes.

Edit: To be clear, this is not the ONLY way to go about things. But it is one of them that is always available to the player. If no available tree line, lure them through a house, get out the back door, and then get out of LoS.

I'm just hesitant to start sprinting away because I don't know how loud that is. I'm worried any progress I've made towards losing LoS of them will immediately be counteracted by me sprinting and them locating me from sound.

You can also enter a building and find an exit through the opposite side, whether it is a door or a window. Most zombies will then stay inside or on the entrance, targetting windows and doors.
