Can't find a single can opener
Okay, so I've amassed what is probably several months' worth of canned food, but even after looting dozens of houses I have yet to find a single can opener, even though the spawn rate is supposed to be quite high in kitchen counters.
Game is 100% vanilla Builder. Did the people in this town treat canned food as some sort of bizarre collectible, never to be opened?
Because at this rate I might actually starve despite sitting on top of a mountain of canned food, because for some mysterious reason I can't use any alternative tool to get them open like, say, a knife or a screwdriver.

Options:

keep looking.
debug one in if you can't wait.
get a mod that allows alternate can opening code.

If you wanna stay Vanilla, tough it out - you'll find one eventually. Otherwise check out Common Sense which adds some QoL stuff, including opening cans with a knife or screwdriver.

I am guessing being zombiesnackalypse people took them with them. I find them in trailer parks a lot, have you tried there? This is using the insane and extremely rare loot vanilla options

Yeah, went to check out some more trailers now that you said that, no luck.
I think something got borked in this playthrough, I legitimately have three cupboards full of canned food back at the safehouse.

Are you checking on top of kitchen counters too? Probably you are, but it seems like half the can openers I see are sitting on top of counters, which means they don't show up in the counter container's inventory.

Oh I think I figured it out.
Builder changes spawn rate of survival essentials to "extremely rare".
lol

If you play in Builder mode or any single player playthroughs with extremely rare setting, I suggest you pick Lucky trait. That thing helps a long way.

Ha ha I am glad I am not the only one this happens to! If you keep looking one will turn up eventually. The only thing worse than can openers is candles. I think the program has something in it where items that start with the letters "ca" are hard to find :steamhappy:

Ye I might have to do that, among other things I only managed to find one (1) set of cardboard matches during this run and literally no other means to start a fire. It's just that there was never a pressing need to start a fire with electricity still running, so I kinda missed that *other* obvious red flag.

You can start a fire using notched plank and sturdy stick if the need arise. Being a smoker in that scenario on the other hand, boy oh boy.

For the record, if you can find some chipped stones, you can turn a log or a plank into a notched wooden plank. You can use that and a stick or a straight stick to start a fire.

edit: and i got 8 hours ninjad because i didn't bother refreshing the page. whoops.

I just started playing this game. Playing the builder scenario. Took hours to find a can opener. Buy that time I was infected and didn’t give a ♥♥♥♥ anymore. Also couldn’t find lvl1 carpenter book.
