Project Zomboid

Got to level 10 strength, but it keeps leveling up over and over again?
I chose the strong trait when making my character, and I finally got to level 10 strength, but for some reason every now and then the strength level up warning pops up even though I'm at max level. I have been thinking that my character is somehow losing xp and leveling down with some weird mechanic and then leveling up again while I work. Do you know if this is the case, or if its just a bug? And if I'm actually losing xp, is there any way to stop it? It's becoming annoying and its making me think that getting to level 10 strength is redundant since I won't be enjoying the effects for long because some minor thing is making me lose the level. Btw I have not been overweight or underweight for over 2 in-game months, so its not that.

I’ve heard of this before. Pretty sure you cannot lose xp once you’ve gained it, so it’s most likely an unintended “bug”. Hopefully someone else has a better answer.

Thanks for the info anyways. I thought I was supposed to know something about passive skills xp that had to do with this but it seemed weird.

I've heard of a feature where you can lose Strength and Fitness if it's neglected

However, either this feature is bugged or not implemented as I have never seen Passive XP ever decrease

Just a harmless bug. I get the same thing, but have never noted my strength or fitness ever actually drop.

Great! I thought I was actually losing my level. I hope it gets fixed in the future to prevent people getting confused like me.

I can 100% confirm this. You can loose str. I don't know how, but for example I just lost 6 xp points for some reason. Might be related on loosing health, or something. Not even sure if its a bug, of a feature. Really annoying, since that 1 str lvl makes a difference in melee combat

edit: seems to happen when the character is sleeping

It's not a bug per see (because it works as intended), it's a few lines of code not well though out.
You will always lose some xp over time regardless of what you do and because you don't gain any xp at max level at some point you will level down, and often immediately level up back again because most activity give you enough xp.

It's been like this for a very, very long time and I highly doubt the dev didn't noticed it, but like a lot of other small things it's not a priority so it's best for you guys to just ignore it.

Well, that kinda sucks for my build. It's unsatisfying because I would like to be able to experience the advantages of reaching level 10 constantly and not having moments where I'm temporally at level 9. I'm sure its just a small difference and I'm complaining too much but still. Besides, the level up sound can get quite annoying when i lose and regain the level multiple times in one day. I still have a small hope that the devs might see this thread and change this in the next patch or in the upcoming build.

some mods fix it, just look for them.

You're right! I haven't played pz in a while since I made this post and at that time I checked the workshop and there was no such mod. Funnily enough, someone released a mod to fix this specific issue just days after I made the post. Problem solved!
