Today i decided to share the files i use to play the old versions (featuring NPCs) of project zomboid.
Which one do you prefer? Do you enjoy the old artstyle? Let me know ;)

//////////////Differences between versions///////////////////

1.5d is the last Pre-Alpha version, featuring the core mechanics of the game and SCRIPTED npcs.

This means that Npcs are dumb as hell, and all the do is running around mindlessly killing zombies and
never grouping up. Player-Npcs interactions are disabled.

Recommended version for the best npcs experience:

2.0q is the combat update version of the game, it introduces a new way of fighting the zeds.

Npcs are non-scripted and have advanced functions, such as grouping up, establishing safe houses,
barricading, advanced pathfinding, satisfying needs and healing wounds and finally basic Player-Npcs interactions.
(This version has advanced carpentry, you can build walls, doors, etc)

2.0r RC 2.5 is utterly broken, zombies are spawning in mass numbers making the game nearly impossible to play,
and all NPCs are useless and will die in a couple of minutes (They ALWAYS get bugged/stuck and eaten by zombies).
It comes with a graphic overhaul, and it's the latest version of Project Zomboid featuring NPCs

/////////////////Launching the game///////////////////////////

Run jre-6u45-windows-i586 and install java6 in the following directory:

"C:\Java 6"

If you already have java6 installed on your computer, simply change the ProjectZomboid.batch java path.
To do so, right click your ProjectZomboid.batch and select "modify";
you can now see on the 2nd string a path called "C:\Java 6\bin\java" (Where the last java is the exe file)
Change it to your current java.exe directory.

If when launching the game an error appears saying "Couldn't find specified directory" then you're doing it wrong;
be sure to carefully follow the instructions above.

////////////////////////Desura Key////////////////////////////

When starting the game for the first time, a Desura Login screen will pop up:

Enter these details:

Username: [e-mail]

Password: game

////////////////////////Mods (Maps)///////////////////////////

You can also find a folder called "Additional Maps (Mods)"

These folder contains a few maps for PZ 1.5d and 2.0q

To install ONE these maps (You CAN'T use two maps at once, like the newest PZ), extract the zip file in your main PZ 2.0q/1.5d directory.

Please Beware that:

I have tested:

- RingodMMM5Cells (2.0q) and it's working correctly

- Romero (2.0q) and it's working correctly

- Vacation Island (2.0q ?) and it's not working (Missing file maybe?)

Other maps like Quarantine Map (1.5d), test (1.5d) and the Unofficial Community Map Update (1.5d)
might not work, as I couldn't test them properly.

///////////////////////Common bugs/////////////////////////////

Don't minimize the game, or the game will crash/freeze your character

Sometimes if you hit zombies with a blunt weapon they will start bouncing at an insane speed

Ringodo's Map only: When switching cells you will often see random furniture floating on the map borders; ignore them

///////////////////////Useful tips/////////////////////////////

You can close curtains by pressing shift and left clicking on a window

In versions 2.0q and 2.0r you can craft base building items (Barricades, wall, windows, floor tiles, etc)

NPCs recruited by you will die of hunger if not fed periodically (Drag the food on them and left click),
remember to give them food before sleeping and when giving them guard orders.

There's a mod with basic NPCs out that are supposedly close to what the old NPCs use to be.

Anyway I don't see the point in all of this, given that you can simply download the newer and updated NPC mod as previuosly mentioned.
