Allow zombies to break player doors but not walls?
I want zombies to break down player built doors but not walls. It makes no sense how zombies don't break down existing walls, but when they come up to a player built wall, they start to break it down. How would a zombie know I built this wall? Anyway, is there a mod that allows zombies to break down my player doors but not my player walls?

There's already that cheese technique, destroying stairs with a sledgehammer to make yourself unreachable.
Player built walls might as well be indestructible at this point since both get the same result.
Asking for the same mod here.

Love that cheese! That's just SOP for me.

If you plaster walls and paint them, they become indestructible in game. Zombies will no longer try to break them.

Lore wise, that's from Romero's 1978 "Dawn of the Dead". Survivors take over a mall, and in one hallway that leads to a part of the mall, they build a new fake wall, and paint the whole thing to look exactly like the surrounding walls. The zombies stop even trying to go there since it just looks like a dead end, and just shuffle right past it. Backfires badly at the end of the movie One character gets bit, turns into a zombie, but retains some memory of that wall. He begins pounding on the fake wall, and a whole swarm of zombies gather and bash the wall down.

Yeah I figured someone would come here with the Dawn of the Dead references. I just want a mod or perhaps a feature in an update that gives me what I want.

Apparently there's a video somewhere that debunks that myth.
can't find it right now, though.
Has someone a link to it?

edit:
I did a quick test with a cheat mod enabled and they do attack plastered/painted walls.

Perhaps we're overthinking this. There are a couple of mods in the workshop that make log walls invulnerable. You could use those and put doors where you want them.

Yeah but zombies would still try to break them down instead of pathfinding around. I just want consistency in their behavior. The reason why I avoid building bases is because the nightmare of managing the durability of every single tile. Even if I download the invincible walls mod I'll still have to deal with zombies banging on nothing. Hopefully it's just an option the devs never thought of making, hopefully its not some technical issue being the reason why this isn't an option in Sandbox yet.

The mods I mention actually make the zeds treat the log walls exactly like non player built walls. They ignore them. I tested this one myself. Works great. I know it's only a stopgap solution and it takes a lot of effort hauling logs all over the place, but it's still worth a look.

Oh wow, cool. Is there a mod to make them avoid wooden walls as well?
william_es Oct 12, 2022 @ 10:14pm
Eh, I'm just building "walls" out of fences and crates.
hardy_conrad Oct 12, 2022 @ 10:21pm
That's the classic one, heh. I've never done it myself but occasionally a neighbour would in multiplayer and I certainly don't mind! Feels sort of cheaty to have a mod make stuff indestructible, but until the programmers change things (which they won't, not this anyway) it's the only option I guess.

Not that I'm aware of.

Careful. The fence/crate combination is very well known.

I've heard from a few people that it's not 100% reliable on the unstable branch anymore, which means the devs might be trying to patch it out.

Yeah, I prefer to take over suitable areas rather than build everything, but building later to further improve security is also good.
