How to place....
So I recently started playing this amazing game and cannot figure out how to place Cardboard Boxes and Wooden Crates that have been gathered, not crafted, from homes and other places. Any advice would be most welcome.
Further, I found a Metal Toolbox and wanted to place it on my table in the shed, how is this done.

How did you pick them up?

The menu has pick up, place down, and rotate.

And the items must be in your main inventory, not a container.

Well I opened a crate in the Logging Co. warehouse and picked up a cardboard box and wooden crate. Afterwords I tired to have the items, one at a time, in my main inventory and in my primary hand with no luck. They are just items for me.

Was this multi-player, because those items should not be 'in' a container unless sombody picked them up and put them there.

Look at the icons on the left. The bottom one allows you to pickup, place, rotate.

It was in single player, I do have several mods installed and found them inside crates. I have tried using the icons on the left to place...I even grabbed a kitchen chair to redecorate! :) I'll try to figure it out. Thank you so much for your help.

If you mean Hydrocraft, I don't know how to place the crates and cardboard boxes I find inside other containers either. I'm not sure if they are placeable.

Thank you for that it is in fact from Hyfrocraft. If by chance you do find out please post here because it would be really really helpful to place already made containers. Thank you for posting. :)

You can pick up already made containers and place them. Since I do not use hydrocraft, I cannot speak on what those containers even are, if they are even containers in the first place. A placeable container will have the chair icon.

dont you just drop them from your inventory and drop stuff into them the same way you would any container?
Tomsawyer Jul 16, 2016 @ 7:46am
In order to "place" them you drop them on the ground, like dropping anything on the ground.
They won't work like most containers, they will work like a bag on the ground, so you can still walk through them. You can put items in them however.

Thank you all for your wonderful tips. I'll be in PZ soon to do just that, dropping the container and placing items in them like a bag on the ground. I was looking to place them on the floor like a standard crate found in the game(like when you build a Wooden Crate), however being able to use them even if in a smaller size is still very much useful. Thank you all again for the advice.

No problem, happy to help! :flyinghappy:

Well I got back in the game, dropped the cardboard box on the floor in a corner and when I scroll through the two shelves and floor(checkered tile icon) I see the C-Box on the floor. When I try to put an item in inside it does not work, but I can equip the box, like a first aid kit, in my hands and place item inside it. This will have to do untill placing these items gets worked into the game.

P.S.Question: Do items left on the floor deteriorate over time in game, further if it does break down over time will the items then spill out onto the floor and begin to break down after the container does. Thank you in advance and have fun choosing how you die! :D

Items last forever on the floor, which is awesome.

Apoligies for necro'ing but since I have answer, ♥♥♥♥ that apology.

Just drop the containers, then put items in them, plain and simple, someone above mentioned items never disappears. That depends if you enbale item decaying in settings.
