Planks & Notched Planks

I've just strated carpentry (and the game in general) and I've decided to get into some crafting. I chopped down the trees to get logs, then craft them into planks. However, I keep getting these 'Notched Wooden Planks' which seem unusable compared to these normal generic 'planks'.

Can somebody please tell me how to make these normal planks instead of scrouging for them near the warehouses?

There should be a option when you use your saw.

Could you be more spefic? Do I right click on the saw or is it in the crafting option?

Do you have a saw in your main inventory? If yes, then right click on the logs and you will have the option to saw into planks.
