How exactly does metalworking/welding work?

I can't seem to find any write-ups anywhere, and the only tut I could find was in french. I can't seem to build anything out of metal, aside from metal barricades on doors/windows. Do I need to be a certain level before these things start to appear?

gonna go ahead and bump, still can't figure it out. Have blow torch in primary, welding mask in secondary, and the recipie mag for metal drums read. Still no prompts on right click. Flux in inventory too.

I FIGURED IT OUT GOOD GOD, had to go to hardware store in west point and find 3 metalworking magazines before the menu even prompted.

Thanks for that! I was asking myself the same question. So you need to find ALL the recipies first?

I don't know how many you'll need, but I kept finding the make metal container magazine and nothing would prompt to build until I found the make fences and make steel roof recipe. There's also a fourth recipe to make metal sheets, but that's not needed to prompt the build menu

that sounds like a bug. i too am not seeing metal container recipe after reading the book.

I'm playing as a metalworker and I've seen the recipe to make big metal sheets out of the smaller ones but I can't figure out how to do it. I have everything I need and it won't let me craft them for some reason

Metalworking altogether is a pain. I practically had to find every metal magazine in order to do anything with metal.
