SafeHouses and how they work
So, allowed my server to create safe houses and they cant be looted, server went public, seems to be working great. What I want to know is, if i build my own walls onto the house, will that become part of the safe house?

Say I build off of my back door, and make it into a big stoarage area, will that be claimed as my safe house, or will it not be part of my safe house? I wanted to ask before I waste time and materials creating a storage area just to be broken into.

I extended walls out from my safehouse, enclosing the two block radius of magic barrier. I didn`t go beyond that since I assumed that since people could walk on those tiles then they would be be able to break into those tiles.

I did notice something though. I have sheet rope access through a window frame. Now, I`m 99% certain that that frame is on the boundary, but someone climbed up and in, but no further. I assume that is because they started to climb from a tile they had access to, and the game allowed them to complete the animation, then turn and go back.
I haven`t yet gotten someone to test if they can access the crates I have next to that tile.

You are forgetting one direction you can extend in though....up ;)

Well if you extend up, wouldnt it still be counted as a custom building and therefor not included in side the safehouse? I also just started playing this game, how can you remove the roof on the house to make a new floor and make a new roof?

It seems to work on the footprint of the claimed area. But...in saying that...it was a two storey building I expanded so I don`t know if the claimed area is a box directly around the property, or goes from the ground tiles to the sky. I haven`t built up beyond the top of the existing roof to test that.
Next time I`m ingame I`ll snag a screenie to let you see what I`ve done.

To break down walls and stuff you need a sledgehammer. Not that commonly found, and in places like warehouses and the McCoy Logging in Muldraugh.
Equip in both hands and select 'destroy' from the right click menu. Pressing r will cycle through what you can break on the tile. Once you start waving the mouse around to highlight things it becomes self explanatory, but be careful when up on roofs. It`s all too easy to fall and break something.

If it`s a bungalow you want to add another floor to you`ll need to build stairs to let you up onto that level for flooring the rest

Edit: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=737415396 is the screenie

So all of that is claimed? The area around the blue shed that is.
And can you even remove the roof on a house to build another story or is that not possible? I wanted to build like two more floors ontop of this house so we have plenty of space and not be in danger of zombies getting in

What looks like a blue shed is actually the upper floor of a two storey house. It`s the house at co-ords 11286x6670 on the zomboid map for comparing what it starts off looking like.
Someone climbed the sheet rope you can see on the corner to the right, then she got stuck in the tile that it leads to, so it certainly seems to be claimed, but I haven`t had it fully tested yet.

There is a little jutting out section of the house on the ground floor, which had a roof on the level where I`m standing. I bashed that part and floored it, so I expect the rest of the roof will be destroyable as well. Even if it`s not, I have loads of space to work with now

Ah alright, I knew it was the second floor. I just dont want people swarming my base and stealing seeing as how im trying to start a community. It just got complely wiped out though because a helicopter flew over it and lured about 200 zombies

If you skip to 2:50, and look at the massive horde in the bottom right, there was about 3 of those.
Do you also have any experience in running a server? I wanted to change the zombie respawn time and cant seem to find it.
Kaldari Aug 4, 2016 @ 9:20am
I don`t have any experience running a server, sorry.

However, you can alter the zombie settings in the custom sandbox, which is what I assume any servers not wanting hardcore 'survival' will use

Yeah I just figured it out. There was an exe do choose all of the sandbox settings for the server.
I currently have a 8 slot dedicated server. I had some regulars and we where all next to eachother, but the horde wiped us out and i think they all rage quit lmao

Hah hah, I know that feeling. You get a good run going and then it all goes horribly wrong. Complacency is what usually kills me.

I`ve lasted a month and sixteen days on the server I`m on (it has infection off though, so much more forgiving of mistakes), but starting to regret taking hearty appetite, so won`t be too fussed if I die. Just means I`ll come back with a better character build :)

I turned off infection for roleplay reasons, to much death and without a system like dayz where you can change your character name but stay the same "character" its netter without it.
