zombies destroy sheet ropes
I've read that in the IWBUMS zombies now destroy sheet ropes.

Usually I ensure some safety by knocking out the stairs.

What do I do now?

I'm a bit scared.

So if i stay in my base for a while and allow them enough time to destroy the ropes, i can only get out by risking breaking my legs (if i dont have more ropes and nails) ?

Make rope breakable, or even a chance to slip an fall... that will fix the OPness out of it real soon too ;) (will also be more beleivable and consistant... be sure to add a few degree of sturdiness and skill mitigation for fall)

I like this much better.

But it cant be half implemented or again we have a toolbox that had only one tool and the tool is now broken ..

would need to have a few variations ..

Sheet rope (weak, plentiful, 18% likely to break if suspending over 75k) .... wears down over 10 uses
Sturdy rope (stronger, less plentiful, only 5% likely to break) .... wears down over 500 uses
Rope ladder (strongest, rare, only .5% likely to break) .. wears down over 1000 uses

Because the fall isn't a full second storey fall, reduce the chance of a break .. I saw a dev remark about making the chance and severity of breaks linked to fall distance and weight, this could play into that.

I like how it discourages obesity ..

Regrettably my best to-date survivor just died. :/

He was getting good at blunt force trauma .. 9s in cooking, carpentry, farming .. nice base and cottage garden all set up ...

Randomly decide to head mid-town and see if it's wild with plantlife, see what's there to loot ...

What killed him ? Stupidity & Overconfidence.

And zombies.

Lots & lots of zombies.

:/

There should be option to find AND crate a ladder without carpentry skill, all a ladder require is some wood and couple of nails or a rope to piece it together...

Any why no carpentry involved ? Because it's broken, it's level compared to things that you can do is silly - a nailed together box with a garbage bag inside to catch some rain water requires level 4...

Carpentry should be about quality and not as a determinant of what you can do. The higher level you have the better things you do. Like we now have with walls - you can create them at level 1 and with increasing carpentry they become better. (and as a bonus at end level ability to craft baseball bats, in case of metal-alternative-skill ability to craft a knife or machete)

Also there should be an option to tie a rope/sheet to a piece of heavy furniture instead of using ONE SINGLE nail to attach it.

I fully agree ^

Zed should not break sheet ropes, it's too ubelievable.

But anyone using it should have a strength to weight carried limit for climbing up the rope. Let's be honest, it's difficult enough for some people in just gym shorts to climb a rope, let alone with a pack full of stuff. The realism here is you may not be able to get your loot into your sky base.

Going down the rope overloaded could be dangerous too. But you can always go down, sometimes faster than you want. Lol

And dependant on amount of usage and weight, the rope could snap and you fall.

Making a functional ladder is way harder than you think, try building one and the balnace it would give you plus the fact of using unfit wood that you just nailed in will make it break in place if you dont know what are you doing.

Point is, the sheet rope was NEVER intended to be a ladder of sorts, it was intended to be as a last resort type of thing that you would use when your base was filled with zombies and you had no escape.

Climbing the sheet rope was added later but they were planning on having different traits to be able to do so, but a lot of stuff happen and here and there and that was put waaay down in the list and here we are, fixing them after almost 2 years i think, i read they will add traits that will add new factors to the ropes.

Also i am sure that IF they implement ladders (which i think they will), there is going to be some mechanics involving zombies pushing down the ladder and you would be stuck in the second floor, but if you are in the first floor, you could put it up again and up you go.

I am all in for the mechanics of ladders since it would make people think about how they will approach making their bases, since if other player/NPC has a ladder, it could lead to probably stealing something.

I HATED seeing floating bases in multiplayer since that removes the thrill of the game and i am glad to see them gone.

People need to learn to adapt. This game is FAAAR from finished. There are going to be even more things added to make the game harder. I'm 100% sure of that. Get used to it. The Dev's have explicitly stated their intentions to see your character's die...

So many things about the game to have varying opinions on. People have different ways that they want to play and the game allows that. I hope the Devs recognize that and continue letting "Sandbox" be the vehicle to let people play what ever way they want. I think giving the ability to tweak the game to match the style in which you want to play means the game will be appealing to a much larger diverse group of people. As an example, I for one, will not purchase and play a game that only permits first person play style. There are so many games that I have seen previews and/or trailors for that I get all excited about buying until....I see that it is first person play style only. And for that reason, I do not purchase the game. But that is my personal preference only. Project Zomboid, having the "Sandbox" option, encouraged me to purchase it because I knew it would be a long long time before I would be able to play anywheres near the way I see some of the awesome veterans play. So instead of getting frustrated and abandoning the game, I can continue to tweak it to match my experience level. And that is going to be part of the fun for me. I think the sheet ropes should be one of those options in Sandbox. It seems to be a hot topic for many people. And as a personal request, I hope we will have the option to play with NPCs, or not, in Sandbox. That will be a big contention for me. Project Zomboid has quickly become my favorite game to play. It is the best zombie/survival game that is on the market and I appreciate the passion with which the Devs continue to work on it and try to listen to what the gamers suggest for improvements. So hopefully, Sandbox will be the answer to allow everyone to enjoy this game to its fullest.

There is a sandbox option to disallow zeds attacking player constructs. I've never used it but that might stop them from pulling down ropes.
Also I agree, Sandbox was a stroke of genius to include. Whenever I hear someone complaining that there are too many zeds or they are too hard or that they can't find any loot, I have to wonder how they overlooked Sandbox mode. You can customize nearly every aspect of the game and make it exactly the environment you want to play in.

Also... NICE NECRO DUDE!
wfawn999 May 30, 2020 @ 9:35am
Thanks for that info. I will check to see if that is indeed an option in Sandbox. I think I will start a new game and test it. If I don't loose any ropes, aha...no reason for anyone to be upset at the new sheet rope change.

Indeed. And to go one step further, when I first found the game, I was so scared to step outside my house because I couldn't even manipulate the keyboard well enough to even make it the street. I found the "Cheat Mod" with the "God Mode" which allowed me to run around killing zombies but they could not retaliate. This allowed me time to figure out the combat system and build just a tad of confidence. I've abandoned that mod long ago but I still need the sandbox, for now. With all the new updates/patches rapidly coming out now, the experience is ever changing.
I love this game!

Do not sledgehammer your stairs. Do as follows:

*pick up TV* *place TV at base of stairs so long as space has no window in front of it*

This is the master method to avoid zombies coming to your base. The magical, mystical television sets. You too shall master this craft if you want safe base. Sheet ropes are unnecessary. Or, use sheet ropes, but fallback of using your human strength to move the tv out of the way briefly to get up again.

This does seem like an exploit though. Is why i never use such methods.

What i do instead is usually construct under and near a window a few supporting wooden pillars, then wooden floors on it. This way, you can have multiple exits out of a house's second level.(course requires level 6 carpentry to construct windows, but it is not that hard to achieve if you know what you are doing.)

Also it is allways a good idea to stock up on stuff you can use later as sheet rope.

I understand you wanna make the game challenging but your opinion on this is really troublesome as someone who enjoys the game. this is a zombie survival sandbox game people are going to do whatever to make themselves safe and adding this feature to the game makes it completely unrealistic. what other viable strategies are you going to ruin in this game to cater the game to how you want it to be played. As someone who's played since release this is really worrying I don't think you should be making unrealistic changes to punish people for playing in a particular way. I don't think as devs you should be deciding how people can and cannot play (when making a sandbox game) and I think if you guys continue to make decisions like this its going to be harder and harder for people to want to come back to play the game.

And climbing the rope with a fridge is realistic?

Zeds love everything that is moving and a sheet rope is moving in the wind, its a great feature, get used to it.
