Project Zomboid

Zombies popping up from nowhere?
I have a base that is in the outer part of the town with not much around but like 3 houses nearby and mostly open fields with a few trees nearby.

I walked an area around my house shooting a rifle to attract nearby zeds to kill off any near my base being sure to shoot near any tree lines and waited a bit to be sure no more came (They are set for sprinting) and getting a good look and all the fields and water line. (At the end of this post is a link to a pic of the exact area with me drawing these spots in).

When I am convinced nothing is left after doing a round or 2 without anymore shooting I walk into my base dismantled a cd player i picked up and a zed starts beating at my door... I am literally 5 feet from the door because i just came in...

I open the door and there are three zeds. After killing them i notice 2 more further down from my base just chilling. After offing them i check the field to the left of my base to find 3 more...

The spawn settings have not been messed with and this happens every once in a while...Why.

zombies spawn out of sight and randomly. There is a mod (I believe one of the survivor mods) that allow you to make at least one location safe from spawns but think of it like minecraft without torches. Mobs spawn outside players area of influence.

Well, guns are... Loud.
Those must be the zeds that came from the furthest reach. Even if they are sprinters, it will take them some time to go through the treelines.

According the the settings it take 72 hours for a zed to re-spawn and only in a chunk that has not been seen it 16 hours. So they should not be normal spawns i do not think.

I would not think so because i did a few laps with no shooting to give them plenty of time. I have had something similar happen often enough to think the same thing so i waited longer than usual thinking about stranglers that might be there.

Now unless you have mods screwing around with this, I have not seen the code break it's ... well code. If you have a Server you can even watch it live as admin to see the chunks spawn new zeds and the random zed wandering, etc. NOW, there have been some strange bugs with mods that have caused what you're talking about it. One literally made zombies invisible until you turned away from them or walked out of their chunk when certain objects were on the ground in the chunk; so this could be a mod issue.
But if this is Vanilla, I have yet to see anything like it and would more likely say that was just unlucky tunnel vision of you not noticing one. If it's vanilla and repeating; DO try to figure out that pattern (where do they seem to spawn from, how quickly to the spawn, etc) as you are the only one I know of reporting this as of yet.
If you are using mods, you may want to check which mod may be doing it =\ I forgot the one that caused that a few patches ago; but it was a funny mod and we had to figure out what item could NEVER be left on the ground or we would all die T-T

It happens, it looks like it's clear, even with respawn off you can't "clear" a base area completely for several days, zombies explore, they might hear a sound and when they reach the point you already left. Besides, they move through the cell exploring and filling emptied spaces. Trust me, I've respawn off and still struggling keeping clean rosewood after like 4-6 in-game months.

Besides normal movement, there are migrations, but those events ocurr only a few times and they pack large numbers of zombies. Depending on your rally group, it will be a huge ground covering but loose horde or a packed mass of running corpses (good luck when that happens),

I do play with mods but did not think of that as I did not add any that had anything to do with spawning. I do not know anything about coding but admit this could be the cause of my problem.
I do not think it was tunnel vision because i did several laps and even aimed my rifle with a scope for range around in the fields so the zeds would light up.

I did not think of the migrations because when it happened in past games there was no way that a migrating zed is that fast. But in this one I guess I could have gotten unlucky and the sprinters migrated in as soon as i went into my base.
I will stick with the idea that it might be the fault of a mod but keep migrating in mind.
