Gun are useless
Currently guns feels absolutely useless and feel like a novelty with how awful it is to aim with them.

Tried shooting a zombie no more than 2 feet from with a pistol, aiming literally right at him and I missed the whole mag somehow? Tried it with different guns and its the same effect, what are they even good for if you literally can't hit anything unless its with a shotgun and the target is less than a meter from you?

Also, is there a mod or a way to make aiming better?

Dude seriously just use it more. Once you get to about 5 aiming, which doesn't take that long you will be starting to kill things really good. By 7 or 8 aim you are a bad ass. At 10 aim you are damn John Wick. Seriously. I thought the same as you and then finally took the time to grind them. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dude. Shotguns seriously. Try to use a shotgun to level skill or pistols cause full auto weapons are trash until you have like 8+ aim.

As far as mods go, Brita's weapons pack adds a lot more really cool guns. But once you realize how OP guns are at high aim it opens up so many possibilities. Its worth it trust me! Good luck.

You use shotguns to level aiming until 3(or further, up to you) and make sure to always be stationary for a few moments, so you dont get the accuracy debuff from moving
Latee you can switch to revolvers and pistols after that
At aiming 6-7 you can try using the m16

When I was a conscript in the German army in 2002/2003, I actually met people like that being unable to hit a target at 3 feet distance with the 9mm. Literally skill level -1 in RL.
You need at least basic understanding of balistics to hit a target, especially at point blank when the bullet will hit higher instead of lower like with longer distances.

Use shotguns for serious issues, and wait for the Zed to get the green outline before shooting. For training, get yourself a BB gun or a .22/.38 with ammo, look for a good fenced off area that will allow you to shoot without needing to move and use skill books (mods needed for aiming/reloading) Save the better guns and ammo for higher skill levels.

Once you get to around lvl 3, Pistols start getting viable for defense as the time for aiming goes down and precision goes up with each level. And practise reloading at your base, just grab a large mag (like a drum mag) and repeatedly load and unload it, and you'll get to level 10 practically for free, meaning you can reload a gun while pulling a horde without troubles or delays.
If guns are useless why is the shotgun second only to fire for clearing a large horde in vanilla?

Used correctly guns are very strong and great for clearing out zombie hordes, I wouldn't try going into any of the malls without a shotgun to draw out the horde so it cannot drop on my head.

If you are running around wildly and then trying to shoot a zombie with a pistol at level 0 aiming you will have a bad time. Stay put and wait a bit and even with no skill you will hit and take out a zombie in a couple of shots.

Nothing wrong with guns

Ah, this kind of topic. *chef's kiss*

Below level 5 aiming you should limit yourself strictly to shotguns.

Find one of them and haul a bunch of shells with you to Rosewood prison. And bring beta blockers as well. Even with low population, that place is a free real estate for aiming skill power leveling.

Once you hit level 5 aiming is when guns become relevant.

I get the way guns are meant to work, having to wait for aim and shotguns being better for early

But I feel pistols should be more viable early on, like instead of missing completely, it takes more shots because your unskilled and hit the body more than the head (do less dmg basically)
-would help with leveling too, you can already just afk the skill with repeatedly loading mags anyways

And the bigger guns like autos n rifles for higher level
especially sad that brita doesent work;(((
Nah guns aren't useless.
They need a big rework though as pistols utterly suck until your aim is around 5-6 regardless of if you start as a cop or a vet (people who would be familiar with a side arm).
To start with, the shotgun is without a doubt the BEST. Plentiful ammo, wide arc so accuracy doesn't matter much, can hit multiple zombies and kill them (5-6 kills per shot is possible) and it levels your reloading and accuracy like crazy.

Most guns need their skill requisites lowered a lot, currently it's very unrealistic. I don't think a magazine is always required, you can chamber rounds without a mag.

try to not have zero aim skill? i can snipe ♥♥♥♥ across the screen with a pistol at high shooting skill. Use a shotgun on packs of zombies to level up if ur having problems.

Now, Lime here is a PZ youtuber and has been playing the game for ages, so don't expect to be nearly as deadly as he is, but he is only using a couple of mods here, so there's no reason anyone can't do what he does in this series. The desensitized trait helps considerably with aiming.

As far as mods that help with gunplay go, Arsenal 26 gunfighter mod helps considerably for me. I use it with Brita's gun mod for lots of extra toys.
