Server port 16262 is closed

My friends told me that they have this warning when they join my coop server. They say that its unable to play the game, how can i fix this?

i watched a guide about it he enters 16261 so do i have to rename as 16262 and then set it as UDP?

Project Zomboid requires two ports to be open. By default these are 16261 and 16262. They server different purposes, so both need to be forwarded to the server IP address.

each of us almost certainly has dynamic IP address. open ports will not work

I was having this issue too, even with the proper ports open via iptables. Something about using the "Host" button in-game and using Steam networking seems to be why. Running a dedicated server with the same ports open work fine.

yeah i did something with the guide but quite didnt work.

Why did they even change it? Previously version was simple and good.

Try hosting a dedicated server. There are plenty of guides on Steam about it.

If you do not open the 16262 port then the game will use the Steam tunnel service instead, which is how it worked previously. Meaning the game works exactly the same as it used to if you do not use the new 16262 port improvement.

i am still having this issue, was there a fix? im looking at the site to open ports on my router - nmy first time trying to open the port on Firewall did not work
