First, the developer is a small team.
Two, the scope of the game is pretty immense. It's not like they are creating a call of duty game or shoveling copy, and paste job (done by so many other developers/publishers EA/UBIsoft). You get the idea.
Three, they do a lot of internal testing before releasing it to the public or even the IWBUMS branch which take a long time to do. Very few if any other developers do this in this day, and age. They leave it to us to do the work. This particular developer takes the time to do it properly.
Four, they listen to the folks who play the game, and also implement a few things we ask for.
I could go on but suffice to say that the world seems to have forgotten that to do something right takes time to do. Also in this day, and age of everything is disposable has made it so people are just interested in something which feeds into their get their fix now, and toss it away.
I don't mind them taking the time to get it done, and do it right instead of just tossing out garbage like so many other developers. I have games which have so badly rushed that they tagged version 1.0 on their garbage then leave the development of the game entirely.
Is this what you want?
Why can't you enjoy what they have done so far, and wait it out. I'm sure they will eventually be done working on it, and in the end it will be an even better game than it is now.
I'm also waiting on another game which has been in development far longer than Project Zomboid which is called Dwarf Fortress. DF is a passion of love, and I see PZ being the same.
Finally, the shelf life you speak of for other games is because those games are low end, and are designed to be a quick fix so you have to purchased the next copy & paste jobs next year.
Any game worth it's salt are still being played today, and in large numbers.
Project Zomboid believe it or not has increased it's player base, and in fact have sold an incredible amount of copies because they are taking their time, and people see how far they have become, and are developers which are NOT going to just up, and leave.
Now with all of that said, if you do not like the game then don't buy it. Move on, and buy a next gen game from UBIsoft, EA, Bethesda or from some other low end developer/publisher. I'm sure they will accept your choice with open arms, and ask you to come back next year to buy the remake of the same game.

You know, the first 70 or 80 people who posted this almost sounded kind of like they had something interesting to say ...

The blogs have more than enough information that you could have answered yourself if you would have just taken the time to read instead of making a post that seems like bait(especially after reading your steam posts)....or maybe im just cynical since these threads come up frequently.
Do you have the game on a desura or something, it doesnt show that you own it?
le bait answers with bait answer = bait confirmed
I'm not sure what the "concept-to-alpha pipeline" was like for PZ or how long it took them to release something playable from the point of initially telling people of the idea.
Star citizen is still barely enough to be called a game, while PZ could easily have released a 1.0 update and called it a day years ago.
