Is there voice chat in the game? How far does the functionality of it go?
By functionality, I mean things such as proximity and directional voice chat, ability to whisper, usage of radios and so on and so on.

Been a supporter since before the game even came out on Steam (back when it was an in-browser game), but I have stopped following it for a long time so I would like to check now. Googling in an attempt to find the answer provides no solutions since most threads I find about this are 5 years old and thus, obviously, outdated.

The VOIP is proximity-based. You can tune its radius in the settings. Sadly, the walkie-talkies and radios are only working on text (!). AFAIR the developers do not plan to change that. A poor decision, if you ask me, since this makes them almost useless for communication...

There is and it does work properly enough, that I do prefer it, over software like TS, because it has a built in limit of the VOIP range. If you wanna talk everytime, wherever your teammembers are, regardless the distance, it may not be the right VOIP for you, though.

Thanks for the info. I'm specifically interested in realistic, proximity-based VOIP. That being said, are there radios which can be used for long range communication or are we currently only limited to proximity-based comms?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

That's lame for them to only be text only,it makes sense to have them be able to work with voice to considering it's much easier to communicate that way.
