The New Liquid System - Made for Griefers?
Isn't this new liquid mixing system essentially made just for greifers? No single player is going to foul petrol or poison water sources. You'll just be adding hundreds, if not thousands of lines of code to handle cases the purpose if which is just to ruin everyone else's play time.

For non-griefers, I can't imagine the game being better by having to manually mix two ingredients when there are already single-click recipes to do the same thing. All a slider will do is make it possible to fail to craft something that you'd normally be prevented from crafting because you don't have all the correct components in the right measures.

i think for the single players, that is something of the point - since you will now have scenarios where you may find valuable liquids that are contaminated and need to be purified or filtered - which makes for some much more challenging scenarios - what if the river is contaminated and now requires more than just boiling to make it drinkable?, or for irrigation? - what if the petrol station tanks start rusting into the liquid after a few years (probably scientifically impossible but still) - either way, i think it opens more opportunities for challenge

i am going to reread the post - and i didn't watch the whole video yet in case it spoiled bits of the game i haven't got to yet

but it seems like it has lots of potential - and i am sure modders will do amazing things with it

While it does look like most of features could only be used in an antagonistic manner, I'm kind of excited for the other potential implications:

- Trying to stretch that last jerry can of petrol by adding a bit of something else to it, without wrecking your car...
- Potential expansion to the medicine system with adding something like proper dosing
- Expansion to engineering and crafting recipies - improvised explosives perhaps?
- obviously the mixed drinks is cool, but I'm thinking getting to use small amounts of bleach to clean water and stuff like that.
- Being better able to share fluids between containers - splitting jerry cans, for example. Or only siphoning limited amounts out of your main vehicle to let you recover another.

I'm sure we'll see many more potential uses with the Build 42 crafting overhaul. That, plus the idea of being able to sabotage other people's vehicles or their water supply sounds like a pretty valid PvP tactic, and they've also said the correct professions will be able to recognise when some tampering has happened, so that'll add some interesting counter-play too.

There will be server options to disable griefing with liquids.

i just remembered that you gave someone a teaser hint this was coming a week or so ago when they raised it as a suggestion - and i had totally forgotten by the time of the announcement lol :-)
They also call it a "liquid system" like what the hell is that. Liquid system sounds like water physics and ♥♥♥♥. When I see the title I thought they made water in game look actually good and have some kind of basic physics with boats or something.

But nope, they made a simple interface that allows you to mix things. Cool, yeah I'll definitely use that.

I just imagine them all sitting at a big round desk and someone was like "know what would be cool!?!?!! Mixing things!!!" 😄

There is griefing potential for sure. But that’s all the more reason to build a secure safe house. I think it could be greifed but so could the hidden generator indoors be used to poison players. And cause death by which they don’t know why they are dying lol. But it is a wonder what their ultimate goal is. I wonder if items like vinegar could be created maybe they are pathing the way for a brewery option. Vinegar making. Distillation. And other luxury of life cocktails and fancy drinks. Bar tender profession. Ooo

Bar tender recipes <3

I didn't say anything because I've got no stake in the game multiplayer yet. The 200 or so hours i've invested so far are all in singleplayer. Still, that is the very first thing I thought off when I heard the new features here on the forum. So I'm not really surprised someone came to point it out.

A big part of why they're implementing this is probably because they want to cater to multiplayer people. It's usually the same in every game, it gets popular and then suddenly new features are added to cater to that new crowd. In this game case, wouldn't it be update v41 and the addition of multiplayer that lead to a popularity explosion that brought a new online crowd ?

Anyway, the only thing that we can do is trust in the devs. Hope they'll balance things right and not waste their time on the little things before the big ones.

The liquid system is necessary to make item handling more simple.

The nazi police !

Simpler.

;)

Edit - Sorry, I couldn't resist. Hehehe.

How so?

To clarify, I don't have a problem with the liquid system, I have problems with the mixing mechanics and, ultimately, the utility of them versus complexity they add. For example, I doubt this would happen but I don't want to end up having to use the fluid mixing dialog to add honey to my tea because tea and honey are liquids.

Also, having to add code to turn off griefing with the mixed fluids, well...that...pretty much proves my point.

I think it’s like an inspect menu but the original quick system is there. But this is to say we analysed the bottle of water. Or we inspected the water cooler. We wouldn’t open the menu to drink from it. We would only open the menu to inquire about its contents and modify more carefully. I assume it will be this way anyway. I don’t know

You would still add water to a mug and add tea bag. But then I suppose you could pour into a half bottle of orange soda. And inspect and see the mixed result.

Possibly dilute some medication for chickens maybe. Or probably for farming mixing the fly spray

It's going to be one of the simplest things I've done for the game to add those server settings.

Not because it's simple to fix / prevent people from griefing that it refute the point he made. His argument still stand.

Also, I'm afraid of adding even more menu to the already clunky and convoluted in-game menu system. The interface REALLY need a rework to make it better and ergonomic.
