Weight management - what's your usual loadout ?
Hey everyone,

As I've finally gotten enough experience in the game and started toying around with guns a lot more it's time for a weight discussion.

- How do you guys manage it ?
- What bags do you prefer to use ? (You can include an early-game / mid game and late game setup if you want !)
- What is part of your must have items on you at all time ?

As far as I'm concerned, it looks like this :

CLOTHES
- Protective pants like Jeans
- Helmet, anything like a construction helmet to a military helmet
- Gloves, leather gloves
- Feet, I tend toward boots of any kind for protection and durability (stomping) I don't mind the running malus.
- Bulletproof vest is nice to have.
- Leather Jacket is my go-to item as it help protects the thighs.
- Second layer is a denim shirt
- Belt

That's about it. With that setup, I'm well protected. I can add a scarf if I find one to help have some extra neck protection.

TOOLS
1 pen
1 eraser
1 can opener
1 ball peen hammer
1 screwdriver
1 scissors
1 saw

If I'm going to do some metalwork, I also bring 1 propane torch and the associated welder mask.

BAGS
- Back, the best I have. It goes School Bag --> Duffel Bag --> Hiking Bag --> Big Hiking Bag --> Large Backpack
- Meds in a Fanny Pack
- Cuz I'm running a military gear overhaul mod, I also have a M-1956 Webbing pack. It's a tactical west you can wear that add 8 slots / 60 reduction. I use it to carry my tools.

INVENTORY
- Water bottle
- Bandages

So yeah, I know I'm a bit of a packmule. I find everything so useful I'm terrible in regard to whatever I carry around. I'd like to get better with your suggestions people.

Now that I'm trying to carry a gun around with me, I'm always getting the heavy load moodles -_-'

It feels like the very best option would be to put everything into the Large Backpack (it's the very first time I find one too !) because it has the best weight reduction but then I would stuff it halfway full and couldn't take much sweet sweet loot with me !

Oh what conundrum.

Replace the ball peen hammer with a regular hammer, it has more uses as a tool.

I always have needle and thread on me too, and some food.

You can keep on a crowbar as a fallback - almost unbreakable weapon. If you don't plan on using the caroentry tools you can not bring them, the crowbar also works for removing barricades.

Good points. I'll look into the hammer suggestion for sure.

Although, you didn't mention much in regard to carry weight so I'm assuming you're like me and you go around carrying maybe a little too much gear ? hahahaha.

Been going pretty light with my latest build, biker outfit, shovel, six+ screwdrivers (can't seem to find a good knife). Got the hiking bag, so that fills up with food and tools for the first two days. He's a strong hunter, so stealth and short blade mostly, shovel if things get a bit hairy for the multihit.

I really like the satchel. It's slim and keeps me from dead-hauling all of that store in one go. I'll really only use a bigger bag for base building.

Damn, I knew I was trying to carry too much when I tried to put that fridge in my bag. I simply can't help it it's too tempting to try.

That, for sure. I have the large backpack and in my current run I aim to have at least 5 spears at any moment, and some branches too.

Edit: I also always have like 2 knifes on me, for making more spears.

Ah, Invictus, you're making me think... I checked your Hammer vs Ball Peen comment and I wasn't able to find the difference. They're basically identical and both can do the same carpentry stuff.

The satchel is good.

first thing to remember is that the weight moodles just slow you down until you are massively overloaded, then it starts hurting (but i don't think it can kill you)

and so you can probably have vital gear, handgun, shotgun and ammo, and you will be overloaded, but it will just mean you can't sprint, and running will tire you out quicker etc

pretty much the same with all this - i don't like the visor on the riot helmet so i avoid that one (is white not transparent, probably for performace - i am sure a mod changes it since there are a few police and swat overhauls)

and the fire helmet is really hot so i tend to avoid that - although i am yet to catch a cold from being sweaty - but i plan to experiment lol

this is an interesting one - i will always go for the protection of the denim shirt - but i am someone who likes to avoid clipping where they can for aesthetic reasons - and the bulletproof vests clips through all jackets (instead of being completely underneath or over the top) - and so i either wear the bulletproof vest with no jacket, and sacrifice arm protection - or wear the leather jacket instead (there are mods that have body armor that doesn't clip - but they include a load of other stuff - so maybe i will try and extract just that - but i also like the vanilla bulletproof jacket)

i sometimes play with the No Items mod which starts you without a belt, and the Size Labels mod which means pants have sizes and if they are too big you need a belt or they can fall down lol

yeah pretty much all that - i tend to go for the regular hammer coz i prefer it's aesthetic as a weapon

also i tend to leave the welding gear in the car unless i need it (more about vehicles later)

and i made a mod that adds an eraser to the pencil (is one line of code since 41.69)

same here again - although i usually carry a spare duffel bag in my main bag that i can equip in my secondary hand if i'm doing a major loot run (sometimes even two if i'm going for major loot)

i tend to have everything in the bag except the water bottle (you can use bandages from the bag)

i also use Noir's Attachments, so the water bottle is attached to the bag (once i get my tailoring high enough) - as well as maybe a few other things so it looks nice (although i'm not sure it does the full weight reduction when you do that)

only additional things are generally a nightstick on my belt for melee (one handed so can also be carrying the duffel)

and then the guns and a bunch of ammo in the bag (boxes always in the bag then generally open as need which automatically dumps the rounds in main inventory, and i don't usually bother to put them back)

yeah i loot loads of stuff - it's all so useful lol - seems a waste to leave it behind - although i often mark the map and then save it (using a mod) - so that if i die a new character (whose map i would have blanked) might find the map and be able to add the notes to their map to find the stuff

what's important with bags is their weight reduction and capacity and the fact that only your main inventory is allowed to be over capacity (up to the 50kg limit - or maybe it's pounds - but either way it's 50 lol)

so you should always fill your bags to capacity before you put anything in your main inventory - because that already has to take the weight of your clothes and equipped items - and it has no weight reduction, while the bags can almost halve the weight of what they are carrying (so long as you have the bag equipped - otherwise it weighs what it says it weighs)

but pretty much - i find you can carry the essentials and only be a little overloaded - it slows you down a bit - but doesn't damage you much - and then a car is needed for the proper loot store - coz those things can carry loads (but are still easy to fill - 5kg per full petrol can and i'm proper prepping for living out in the woods away from the gas station lol)

also - do some push ups :-P

i like the satchel as an additional bag - but even with the mods that allow that it clips - and clipping makes my brain itch :-)

(i will live with it for essentials like belt items in certain positions - but i try and avoid it wherever i can - mostly it bugs me for clothing - or items going through bags, clothing or the player)

Fanny packs are also unsung heroes. You can use them to carry cigarettes, bandages, and a snack and still use other packs.
bulbatrs Jul 22, 2022 @ 6:36am
depends on the season, but if we are talking summer I would wear summer hat as it helps to protect against the sun and heat, tank top, small shorts, sneakers.
If I need hauling it's gonna be large backpack. for medicine it's just a couple of bandages. pen, eraser, some food for the day and water.
If I'm lvl my electrical skill then I have a screwdriver and a hunting knife in belt, otherwise a couple of hunting knives. My favorite weapon on the back and some sort of reserve weapon in backpack like hunting knife. If my main weapon is a spear I'll have a few branches in backpack. If i'm going for a lot of killing I'll have an appropriate amount of reserve weapons.

funny packs have storage of 2 with 0.5 weight and weight reduction of 50%.with large backpack having 85% weight reduction there is no reason to have to carry around 0.5 extra weight that has highly inferior weight reduction. If you have 3 full large backpacks filled, only at that point it's worth wearing one.

Can you unbarricade windows with a ball peen hammer? Maybe I recall it incorrectly...

You can wear both, and keep the fanny pack for a few select low weight items. If you are the type to really fill your hiking bags, the fanny pack means you can more quickly access those few items (rather than scrolling down). If you are playing a smoker, it is very efficient.
