Emergency broadcast frequency
Hey guys,

I know it's randomized every playthrough. Sadistic game devs for sure. I'd like to know what exactly do you guys do with that frequency. To me, it's a useful tool that actually don't get used at all. I don't have time to waste standing next to a radio in the chances that it'll tell me something useful.

I know it can predict bad weather and heli's events but like... how do you guys make it practical to use it ? I don't really want to carry a walkie talkie with earphones with me all day wasting batteries in the rare chance it'll give me one useful info.

I just don't get it so, so far, I haven't bothered with it at all and I've been surviving fine.

Still, I feel like I'm missing something useful.

Just understand that, aside from the helicopter, every other useful bit of info on the radio is told to you in 24 hour increments.

Meaning you only need to check it once a day. For the purpose of the radio, a new day starts at 9am.

It can alert you to forecasts for current/next day
Extreme weather up to 5 days out
"air activity detected" means the helicopter event will occur that day (occurs after the report- be sure to wait a bit before shutting off the radio)
Two days warning about the power shut off- i THINK water too.

Might be some other minor stuff. Just check it once a day around 9-noon and you'll be good.

If you wanna just carry a walkie though, just check on the hour- no need to leave it running constantly.

Well, that's great.

Not sure I understand the schedule though. How often does the useful info repeat ? Is it something like every 30 minutes from 9 am to 12 ?

I'd like to clarify that. That way, I'll be able to make use of it from now on.

Hourly.
Best option, turn on the radio when driving. Or when cooking, reading, doing push ups, etc. You do t need to stand next to the radio, it's only a "background activity".

the radio plays every hour like 7:00 to 7:10am all day long 24/7

best is to set alarm clock to like 6:50 or something so you wake up, do some stuff while the radio tells you the weather.
sound value on 2-3 is enough to hear it in the while house,
dont need to stand next to it. and wait.

Water is out. Power still on. And out and about during helicopter event and oh well. When event come let enjoy it.

Side story on the helicopter event I hear chopper sound only in mid day. So I rush out of town and ramp a tree on the way and that my truck. Run all the way out of town with a long tail of zombie.

I turn on the radio either early in the morning, while preparing for my day-activities an while making the lunch rations for the day, or late in the evening either also while preparing food, or while doing my daily exercises.

Usually I prefer the "evening news", as I can then plan my next day in advance. But actually it doesn't make that much of a difference.

So the more I think about it, the more I realize I use it just the way I do in RL. :steamhappy:

I farm. Helps plan around droughts. Heads up on rainstorms. "Oooh, light showers? Time to sow! I can't be bothered to water all them.."

Also lets me know about that pesky chopper sometimes too.

Thanks guys, food for thoughts. I'll try to incorporate the radio in my usual routine too.
