Note that it will take a lot of power the more 'stuff' it has to power like freezers 'n such.
I think you can get away with going to the 1st floor, going out to of the window at either the kindergarten room or teacher's lounge and putting it on the roof there.
You can also build stairs in future so you don't have to keep going out of those windows if you wish.

That SHOULD like at least power it or a good majority of it.
But you can always say connect it, turn it on and explore the school seeing what lights do and don't work to check if it does connect. (And ideally turn ones you don't use off to save fuel)
Bringing multiple generators is still a good option, not to power multiple areas but ideally as backups I suppose. Only turn 'em on when needed or something, since you'll eventually have to repair them with scrap electric.
You can check how much is plugged it by checking the genny.
You've really got two options: Eat gas, save electronics. Eat electronics, save gas.
