Gas cans are broken

At least now I can put gas into empty glass bottles... But uhh, would be cool if actual gas cans worked. The only mods I am running is enhanced moodles, better stat descriptions, a mod that lets me wear glasses and a mask and a mod that adds the Unimog.

I'm sitting at a gas pump with a generator and all I can do is fill my glass bottle yet none of my three empty cans. I can't even siphon vehicles with it. What even happened? Do I need to start a new game after the update?

Did you try disabling all the mods and then see if you can fill i tup ?

Yeah. *sigh* I guess I might have to start a new game. This kinda takes the wind out of my sails, I just finished building my cabin last night.

That strange. If there is power, should have a "take fuel" option when click pump.

The take fuel option is there but it only allows me to fill an empty beer bottle. The gas can is absent from the right click menu even when I'm holding it in my hand. :(

Is gas can in primary? Or is the gas can already full?

Is power still on. Power is gone in day 4 in my game so I thought it a bug with glass bottle instead.

Gas can empty, power is provided by a generator I dragged all the way here. Lol

I can't say for certain, as this is based on experience modding in the past but... Mods may not be the culprit. It's possible that the Gas Can was recently changed to fuel up based on a tag instead of the old method, but in an existing save, changes to script.txt items will not apply to items you've already found, instead only to new ones you find in cells you've never explored.

You could test this by starting a new game quick, finding a gas can, and seeing if you can fill it. If it works, the issue is as I stated, if it still doesn't work, a mod broke it.

Do you have the mod "Weigh Reduced for Gas" (or something like that) installed? Try to turn it off. I had that mod and after the last update refuel generators option was not enabled, after trying to fix it i figured that i had that mod, i turned it off and it worked. Anyways if is not that mod the one that you have (If u have mods installed..idk) try to turn off every mod that involves Gas

You know one thing you could try is going to a town that you haven't been to before and finding a gas can there. Or maybe use Necroforge and spawn in a new one. Usually if the game has updated or a mod has been added and you go to a new chunk of the game that hasn't loaded yet the new values will load in with the new chunks. It's worth a shot if you don't want to restart everything.

The multiplayer server I've been on decided to get crazy with difficulty settings, so no gas in gas stations, no gas in cars, haven't even found a bloody can opener in several days of playing much less a gas can. So for all anyone knows it could be just as broken here, not that it would make a difference...

As far as I am experienced, try holding the gas can in your primary or secondary and THEN trying to fill them with gas.

gas cans are not broken (they also do not require you to have them equipped or even in your main inventory) - it may just be that you are trying to use gas cans that you already found before the update - or something like that - either way it is working for others, and so there must be something weird going on at your end

maybe try debug mode?

make a copy of the save and load it in debug mode (right click the game - go to properties and enter "-debug" without quotes into the launch options)

load your copied save and click the debug icon at the bottom of the icons on the left (it has a bug on it) and use the item list to add an empty gas can (and an empty bottle if you want to check - use the name search and type gas or bottle and select the empty ones) - and then go to a gas pump and right click

you should have the option to fill either the gas can or the bottle

remember that in most cases any item that is changed by a game update or a mod will only be changed for items that have not yet been generated in your save - now the gas cans didn't change but the bottles did - and maybe the functions for the pumps did - although function calls shouldn't have a problem with this - so maybe it's that fuel pump that's borked (if the pump has had its definition changed)

either way - if you find new gas cans that may fix it - or try a pump at a different gas station etc

(and now i really want to revert to 41.71 and see if i can break my save this way to see what happens and how to fix it lol)

unfortunately i couldn't replicate your scenario - i reverted to 41.71 - i got a few empty gas cans and bottles - i went to the gas station and connected a fuelled generator (i made sure the power was off) - the take fuel option was there, but with no option to select a container (since only gas cans could be filled in that version)

i then updated the game to 41.73 and loaded the save

i had the option to fill bottles or gas cans - and they both worked fine

so i'm stumped what may have caused your game to break

maybe make a copy of your save and load it without the mods?

Yes as stated above I strongly suspect this is due to using a previous save, with all the fuel changes in .73
