Is there a story?

Is it a story or something? Like, can we meet npc or find out why there is zombies, what happened in the world etc?

Or is it just empty samdbox with primary focus on surviving without any rpg/story elements at all?

its your story. the way you play is the plot.

There is a story. You can listen to radio messages. Encounter failed survivors. Explore the failed emergency and military responses to contain the virus.

However it isnt a story driven game. It does have RPG elements but it is largely a survival sandbox. That being said it is far from empty but the story elements, such as they are rarely have significant effect on gameplay, (I say as I hide from the helicopter....).

That all being said the NPC update is dropping sooner or later which will increase how... lively the world will be.

watch the in game news or listen to the radio, and yep, some lore. for the time being, though, not too awful much. it is, for now, mostly a sandbox game, so yeah.
