Project Zomboid

how to search workshop excluding certain keywords?
hi i was wondering if anyone knows of a way to filter mods when search on steam workshop?
(maybe there is a generic way for steam workshop, but for example, how to "not" include certain keywords?

for example, i am really impressed by all the cool and sheer manner of mods for zomboid - its really good, though because i am playing a particular playthrough, i was trying to search for the following, but not sure how? :)

to see all newly published/recent mods
excluding anything with "true music" in the name
excluding anything with "gunman"
excluding anything with "arsenal"
excluding anything with "britas"

(again, this is 'not' due to any mods being bad, its just that there are not desired for the current playthrough) :)
edit: i thought i had posted this on a workshop thread but could not find it.

if you find out how to do this they will make statues of you ;-)

you may be able to do it in a browser by playing around with the fields in the HTTP request - or even by doing a google search - but the search capabilities in the steam client are pretty basic unfortunately

ah ok thanks,
i'll also ask the steam beta forum maybe they can add some more filters (a bit like how we can use tags currently in some workshop searches, but with words)

I wish, the true music spam has nearly ruined the workshop

Dunno if it helps much, but you can sort by tags on the right hand side before you search in the workshop. Find the tags for the mods that annoy you and check everything else, or do a search in a particular tag for something you're looking for.

hehe, i guess its harder than i thought
(maybe a way to exclude any mod still using the default "example mod" picture would help but hey we all have to start somewhere when modding)

Like with most websites' crappy search engines, you're probably better off using Google.
Example, like googling
site:steamcommunity.com "zomboid" mod -"true music" -britas
Plus whatever else you wanna add.
Keep the quotation marks. It means you're searching (or excluding) that exact phrase

I apologize for bumping the thread but I figured I'd share this for anybody else trying to do this like me. Steam search supports boolean operators so if you do a search in the workshop for this string:
NOT "True Music" NOT "Gunfighter"
it'll filter out anything with those keywords in the name. Just make sure you wrap your keywords in quotes.
It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you very much for sharing! :sadisthappy:

I also discovered there is AND keyword:
"word" AND "exact phrase" AND "more"
This will show items that have "word", "exact phrase", and "more" in title or description.
If you were to do this without AND, it would show items that have at least one of these words/phrases, not necessarily all of them.

Can combine with NOT too:
"word" AND "exact phrase" NOT "Gunfighter"

Yeah it seems like Steam does fuzzy search regardless of syntax used.
For example if you type "word" it might match "work", even if you specify NOT "word".

By the way, is this search syntax documented somewhere? How did you find it?
