I recommend survivor difficulty, first thing.

I tried apocalypse for my first couple runs, and, I have to mention, of course you're gonna die a lot, especially when you're new, but apocalypse takes those deaths and times it by 2.

Survivor gives you a lot more freedom in combat, but I think the biggest thing, is the fact you can hit 3 zombies at a time rather than just 1.

Make sure zombies are 1.0 base. 1.0 start and 1.5 peak zombie populations. If the base setting r to hard lower the start zombie pop to .8 or .5 untill u git gud.

When i started i thought 1.5 1.5 1.5 zombie settings were normal xD so if u want tested for ur gaming abilities do that

I'd suggest directly starting in apocalypse and get used to the mechanics, especially combat. It is the difficulty that the game was thought to be played on.

Multi-hit trivializes combat a lot, and what you learn will not apply once you want to increase the difficulty.

However, your game, your rules. Try different things and play it the way you enjoy the most.

Survivor is much easier because of multi-hit. Once you get used to combat, multi-hit makes fighting hordes easy easy.

Like somebody else said I'd recommend starting on Apocalypse because multi-hit is going to teach you a lot of bad habits that will not carry over into Apocalypse mode. Start in riverside, ya it's far away from everything and not the greatest loot but it's probably the easiest starting location as the river is right there for infinite water and the zombie count there compared to others doesn't get too intense.

Learning to play without multi-hit will make you a much better player in the long run. Then when you go play online, most servers use multi-hit so it will seem sooooo much easier and you'll instantly be one of the better players on the server (if many on said server never or barely played with multi-hit off)

Honestly your biggest threat in this game is your own decision making. One bad decision can domino effect into worse and worse and now your dead. Oh and don't follow "meta" builds because they're actually trash for new players. Those builds require good knowledge of the game/how to play and or specific play styles. Yes they can be strong builds but if you're new DO NOT use them. Make your own custom build, go light on the negative traits (or hell don't take any) at first till you learn the game more and more comfortable. Then you will learn which negative traits can go with your play style the best so you won't hamper your experience.

Starting on Apocalypse and learning to play that way will in turn in the longer run teach you better decision making on how to approach hordes and situations since you don't have multi-hit. With multi-hit on you could honestly just walk towards any horde with a weapon and win (once you're good with the games combat of course) if you're character isn't already tired. Always have a plan and think before you do things
