Backing up your save vs perma death
I just thought, if you can back up your save (which you can) then really perma death does not exist in this game as you can just reload your backup when you die and thus anybody can beat survival. I could have done this previously although I didn't try because I don't want to last over a year by cheating which is how it feels to me and therefore I lost 3 and a half months (in game time) of building and looting etc. I think there should be a way for saves to be blacklisted if you die in that game so that you can not just simply use a backup of a time that you were alive.
Unless this already exists and I am just ranting? XD

When the zombies stop cheating, then we can talk. (They can attack the player near doors or trees, but the player cannot attack them.)

Ahh mate, sounds like you've succumbed to the tricky-business-save-technique.

Your life - but I counsel against it, it's better to wear the death on the chin, and navigate around deficiencies in the game.

(And zombies in trees - I always have one hand over space-bar, the push technique seems to work, even if the weapon-attack is directed at the tree)

So, you feel everyone else who could care less about those 'fist in the air' moments should be punished? We are talking choice and you want to remove that freedom of choice because you cannot control yourself?

Personally, I don't care and don't bother saving off my player file. I mean, why? I can just start a new character in the same world if I want. I don't need 'forced' rules on me to decide how I or anyone else plays a single player game. I can be on player number 4 in the continuing saga of the same world space, and find a nicely stocked and already built base because I don't have to start an entirely new game.

Might as well get rid of the workshop and mods as well. Thats just as 'cheating'.

The point of our game is not to "beat" survival. You will not be able to. The point is to tell the story of how you died.
Saying it's not permadeath when you can cheat is taking it a bit too literal.
Yeah but the problem with that is you have not added dieing of old age yet.

Dying of old age isn't really needed, nobody will live that long. No one will survive for 20+ years. You will get completely bored waaay before that time would eventually come. Surviving for that long would take hundreds and hundreds of hours. Maybe even thousands.

I just want to point out even games like Minecraft have a 'hardcore' mode where your save file is intantly deleted upon death (although that doesnt stop manual backups, i totally wish Zomboid had an option for this.)

But besides that... You all need to realize everyone has their own things they like about games, and with Zomboid being open sandbox "Tell your own story" there are going to be quite a bit of different opinions!

So lets all play the game the way we like it yes?:spiffo:

Happy surviving!(or barely..:deadrat:)

I don't think you read my original post. It is not about cheating anybody, it is about being able to show your friends that you survived as long as you did without using a backed up save.

WillieSea, I don't propose to take away any options rather than add an option, so if you want to remove the option of reloading a backed up save simply tick a box before starting your play through. Everyone is a winner... Simples ;)

I am not sure how would a 'tic box' would prove you didn't "cheat", its not like your so called friends who think your a liar would be able to see that. (They think your a liar because they cannot trust your word, and those are not friends in my book.) Not that it should matter to anyone, anyway, how you play the game.

I do understand what your saying, but I really don't see the need for it.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! All of this for nothing!!! Not sure if the devs saw this thread but it has been implimented in the latest build already.

So I guess it does matter WillieSea :D

The reason I knew that you could load a backup save is because I tried it in an earlier build so I could record my base build to put on youtube. I just thought I would see if it is the same as I just recently died in my newest save, and I can confirm that you can no longer simply use an old backup. If you try it takes you to the character build screen to start again but in the same world. I can't speak for build 34 but I am using IWBUMS 35.12 and that feature is now implimented. Good on ya devs!

Thread closed. Thanks for all that participated.

You can't do that. Thread got more then 10 replies, best you can do is unsubscribe from the discussion.

Thanks but it was more of a statement that no more replies were needed. :)

Agreed.
karl.marsh1 apparently does not know how to do it. Or tried it in multiplayer.

WillieSea why are you always so damn hostile? I am guessing you can't get very far without save scumming which is why this thread provides your butthurt?

Whenever I complete a large base I backup my save. C;/users/name/zomboid/saves/survival/savenumber/

when I died in that save I simply renamed the folder and added the backup I made after I completed the base build when I was alive. Loaded the game and it would not let me load it without creating a new character. You are dead first when you try save scumming right?
Also are you using the latest build?

I then tried again with a new game and backed up the save straight away, then killed myself and tried loading the backup to no avail.

Edit: if the backup save is named the same as the save you died in then it will not work. I deleted the dead save and simply replaced the folder from a zip file which did not work. If you just duplicate the folder with a different name then it will work

Not sure what you're doing wrong then. I'm on IWBUMS, and did exactly what you did in your second paragraph. Bottom line is there isn't really anything the devs can do about save scumming. Even if they were to flag the save/map it wouldn't take much to unflag it.

Fair enough FmanR. Thanks for the replies.
