Louisville Advice
So I feel I've depleted Muldraugh of its most valuable resources and reduced the number of zombies in the area to a mere handful. I've hoarded tons of stuff in my base and expanded it to store everything. I think it's time to head out to Louisville and see what all the fuss is about. I've picked out the nice large apartment building, with the penthouse as a nice place although that's a lot of stairs. I have loaded my army flatbed truck with all the useful stuff and I'm ready to head out towards Louisville.

Can you guys give some advice for Louisville before I set off on this long road trip? I'm worried this'll be the end of my character and I'll get surrounded as soon as I pull my truck over. There are going to be larger groups of zombies there. I just want more. More stuff to loot, more zombies to fight. I feel like I can take them all on.
My plan is to drive there, stop at a house if I need to sleep, drive all the way and probably go into the nearest house next to my destination to rest before I enter the large apartment building attempting to clear it. Then work my way up each floor clearing it. Finally, arriving at the penthouse, I will make it my home, living the luxurious lifestyle on top of the world and fortifying it, making it self sufficient with all the skills I have. I shall then proceed to clear the surrounding area of zombies while bringing back anything I can decorate my new base with.
Any ideas/suggestions are welcome.

I think I may set off to Louisville later today. With this many zombies I may level up my long blunt skill, which is already quite high. I brought a 9mm and all the ammo I have for it but don't really intend on using it. Maybe I'll use it, as you say, to attract zombies but they would be coming from all angles. We'll see.

If you are going to rely on melee weapons then it's worth remembering that zombies can drop out of higher floor windows and sneak up behind you or block an escape route.

It's good to keep this part in mind, and it's why the downtown area is so dangerous.

Assume each building is likely housing >50 zombies. If you get caught in the middle of the street between two buildings, it's quite easy for zombies to flood in from the front and the back making both forward progress and retreat impossible for vehicles. By the time you're properly surrounded and unable to move your vehicle, it's also too dangerous to leave it and try running.

It's much better to start blasting your weaponry from areas you KNOW there will be fewer/no zombies attacking. There are places like the mansions along the river or where Bender mentioned in the Northwest corner of Louisville. This will allow you to always have somewhere safe to run/drive back to.

Also, when you get a smaller vehicle, it helps to keep in mind that you can perform drive-by shootings with your guns (or even melee attacks, but I don't recommend it due to zombies also being able to attack you). You can drive down to an area, shoot a few shotgun shells off, then tear off down the road a few blocks. Many zombies will pour into that area and out of the surroundings making them easier to loot.

Another thing I don't recommend is using fire. There's a lot of good stuff in Louisville, using fire has a chance of spreading to buildings you don't want razed. It's densely packed so fires have a tendency to spread everywhere.

You can fire guns / use a baseball bat in a car?

Yes. You must roll the window down first, though. This is what allows zombies to attack you back. To avoid this, continue moving (either forward or reverse) and their attack animations will not land.

There's a cruise control function for vehicles. You can set this to a low speed so you only need to worry about aiming and steering. I use a controller and have been unable to set it with a controller, however the keyboard commands work.

Seems like it would be dangerous. If I was surrounded in the truck, would it make sense to open the window and swing a baseball bat at them where they could easily just attack me or pull me out of the truck?

No, it wouldn't make sense. At most, you can attack 3 of the zombies with vanilla weapons. 2 with a baseball bat. If you open the window, you will immediately be attacked if already surrounded. Those attacks will block you from attacking back. Best case scenario if fully surrounded is to power through ahead or reverse until you're clear enough to get out and run. It's tough.

They can't pull you out of the vehicle, but they don't have to. One bite is enough to end you and the odds of getting one (or scratched/lacerated) are high when fully surrounded.

I can't see fighting from a big truck in streets clogged with zombies ending well. Best bet is to not get surrounded. And that means find a compact to go scouting in. I do hope you'll post how you get on. feeling quite attached to your adventure now :)

The long journey is the funniest thing we did with my brother, ♥♥♥♥ happened, most supplies had to be abandoned but eventually we made it. Without picking a spot we drove there and ended up with a whole square as "base".

My suggestion is to drive into Louisville North East Center all at once, spotting police cars and ambulances. Those are needed to hoard entire buildings. There are a lot of fenced areas (werehouses) near public buildings that work as provisory bases. I believe you can clear out that area first to safely move west to your luxury home.

Now, after clearing hospitals and entire departments, we can't even loot in West Point. We started another server with a 3rd Bro loading the same settings and all of the sudden, smaller towns are harder than LouisVille. I believe big cities hold more cover and predictable zed movement.

I'll update you guys on how it goes when I make the journey, hopefully I don't get surrounded and die, or wander into a building a tons of zeds appear.

I have to say that Louisville in this game is one of the most impressive levels/areas I've seen in any game so far. It's so large and detailed. It's really worth it to go and look around and explore it.

Also, if you want tips where to settle in there I'd suggest this house
https://map.projectzomboid.com/#12035x2102x2556

It has almost complete high fence around it and a body of water in the backyard. There's a gas station nearby too. Just know that there will be more zombies in Louisville than anywhere else on the map :) At least that was my experience! I visited some mall there too and there were so many zombies that they were falling down from the floor above on top of you. That was pretty intense but extremely fun to see. There's army surplus store in the northern part of the city if you need some army clothes and other stuff. If you have Brita's weapon pack it's time to bring the minigun with you...

I haven't set off yet. I think I'll do this in a moment. I hope I haven't forgotten anything I'll need. Probably some plastic trash bags to make water containers so I don't have to go looking for more. I'm done working for the day and now I can play.

The bridge on the main road to Louisville is clogged with burned out cars. No driving around that. I don't think I can push that many cars. Gonna attempt to tow a burned out car, or consider an alternate route.

I noticed the train bridge and took that. Arrived at military checkpoint. Got some military gear: helmet, jacket, t-shirt. Exploring the buildings in the first area.
