Louisville Advice
So I feel I've depleted Muldraugh of its most valuable resources and reduced the number of zombies in the area to a mere handful. I've hoarded tons of stuff in my base and expanded it to store everything. I think it's time to head out to Louisville and see what all the fuss is about. I've picked out the nice large apartment building, with the penthouse as a nice place although that's a lot of stairs. I have loaded my army flatbed truck with all the useful stuff and I'm ready to head out towards Louisville.

Can you guys give some advice for Louisville before I set off on this long road trip? I'm worried this'll be the end of my character and I'll get surrounded as soon as I pull my truck over. There are going to be larger groups of zombies there. I just want more. More stuff to loot, more zombies to fight. I feel like I can take them all on.
My plan is to drive there, stop at a house if I need to sleep, drive all the way and probably go into the nearest house next to my destination to rest before I enter the large apartment building attempting to clear it. Then work my way up each floor clearing it. Finally, arriving at the penthouse, I will make it my home, living the luxurious lifestyle on top of the world and fortifying it, making it self sufficient with all the skills I have. I shall then proceed to clear the surrounding area of zombies while bringing back anything I can decorate my new base with.
Any ideas/suggestions are welcome.

Ok. Don't stress about the fences. There are gates, these can be broken through with a handaxe, so it's easy. You will find about three huge roadblocks of broken cars on the way. A big ass truck might struggle to get through unless you have the gear to dismantle wrecked cars. Resting up before going into Louisville is probably a good idea. There's an apartment above a gas station not too far from the checkpoint, if that's a no go, then there's also a warehouse where you can access the third floor roof a bit further along for a safe sleep.

There are some buildings in Louisville that are INFESTED with hundreds of zombies. If your selected base is one of those then good luck clearing it out after your roadtrip. Being deadset on a safehouse is probably the only thing about your plan that could be a problem. I'd suggest holing up somewhere on the edge of town to begin with. There's a motel not too far from the hunting store in the south east that can make a good initial base. The mansions by the river are also secure and not too badly infested.

Hmm maybe I'll avoid driving straight into the middle. It would be a good place to explore from with something interesting in every direction, but I might start in the edge and try and clear the street. I'm thinking maybe having a base all the way up on the top floor isn't such a great idea when it comes to unloading my truck and storing things. To get through the roadblocks I might be able to push the broken cars out of the way with the truck. I might also have the means to dismantle a fence if needed. The video posted makes it seem like there aren't that many zombies on the streets. But I've seen another video where the guy was on a roof and below were hundreds of zombies surrounding the building.

I drove a bus (with RV interiors mod) to Louisville to set up shop in the park with a player built house atop the bar near the lake. Stopped to empty out the militatry checkpoint of all guns and ammo, bypassed the rest. Sadly, the bus was absolutely trashed by the time I reached the outskirts. The amount of zombies is absolutely amazing. Seems a better idea to set up on the edges and work your way inwards slowly.

They trashed your bus even with nobody inside? Or was it different because it has an interior and is like a house with lights on inside and no curtains and generator noise?
I think I'm going to start along the edge as suggested, there'll be plenty to explore along the way. I was hoping to immediately establish a base to unload my truck but I suppose I'll just keep everything in the truck as a mobile base. I certainly don't want to go outside one day to find my truck taken apart and its inventory destroyed.

Military blockade you say? Does that mean there are humans with guns ready to shoot at me? I have an upgraded baseball bat, I also brought all my sledgehammers with me and every tool that exists. What does this military blockade entail? Probably a gathering of zombies outside a gate that I have to deal with I imagine.
Edit: I was planning on taking the straight road into Louisville from Muldraugh, heading into the heart of the city.

I'm pretty sure the outposts long overrun but there are a LOT of good guns in there along with military apparel.

I definitely need more military apparel. Most of it is so rare. All I have are desert military boots and backpack.

Checkpoint is a one stop shop for military apparel, guns, ammo, medical and other military kit scattered among all the troops tents.

Plus to gain entry with a vehicle, either dismantle the barricades at the southern side or follow the fence around to the breach and then go through the side gate feeding the zone between the double fence or continue through the woods and enter from the north gate.

Unless you have an unlimited amount of ammo, avoid heading straight back to your safe area after the hospital just north of the roadblock, as the amount of zeds that pour out are just insane!

I think the penthouse is going to be like an end objective and I'll put off living there, as prestigious as it might be to live there. I don't like the idea of all those stairs driving me mad at the end/start of every day. I think I'll live a nomadic lifestyle using my truck as a mobile base and use any house with a bed. At some point I'll want to pick a building to unload my stuff and establish as my base but I'm in no rush. This is no longer a case of driving straight there and setting up a base. The journey will be an adventure filled with huge swarms of zombies to clear out. I don't use guns. Attracts too much attention. Never fired a gun once. I live by my upgraded baseball bat.

Funny story, there's a baseball bat warehouse (with nothing but baseball bats) in the Northeast area of Louisville, just West from the mall.

I'm definitely heading there to collect all the baseball bats, take them back to the new baseball bat cave.
Edit: I don't suppose there's also a wood glue factory there too?

No, but there are warehouses with generic industrial loot and I believe specifically glue/wood glue supplies in the big warehouse here: 12158x1625

Louisville is actually a good place to change that. I find it much safer to fight outside. A really good way to persuade zombies to come out to play is to pop a few shots through a window with something loud. If you are going to rely on melee weapons then it's worth remembering that zombies can drop out of higher floor windows and sneak up behind you or block an escape route. You'll find plenty of cops carrying loaded shotguns around across louisville. I find that the dead like to bring me axes in their backs too. Which is kind of them.

My advice would be a machine gun if you have Brita's guns mod running. Just remember to stand still for a moment before you start shooting and use short bursts.

This ain't CoD, you can't run an gun

I think I may set off to Louisville later today. With this many zombies I may level up my long blunt skill, which is already quite high. I brought a 9mm and all the ammo I have for it but don't really intend on using it. Maybe I'll use it, as you say, to attract zombies but they would be coming from all angles. We'll see.
