Louisville Advice
So I feel I've depleted Muldraugh of its most valuable resources and reduced the number of zombies in the area to a mere handful. I've hoarded tons of stuff in my base and expanded it to store everything. I think it's time to head out to Louisville and see what all the fuss is about. I've picked out the nice large apartment building, with the penthouse as a nice place although that's a lot of stairs. I have loaded my army flatbed truck with all the useful stuff and I'm ready to head out towards Louisville.

Can you guys give some advice for Louisville before I set off on this long road trip? I'm worried this'll be the end of my character and I'll get surrounded as soon as I pull my truck over. There are going to be larger groups of zombies there. I just want more. More stuff to loot, more zombies to fight. I feel like I can take them all on.
My plan is to drive there, stop at a house if I need to sleep, drive all the way and probably go into the nearest house next to my destination to rest before I enter the large apartment building attempting to clear it. Then work my way up each floor clearing it. Finally, arriving at the penthouse, I will make it my home, living the luxurious lifestyle on top of the world and fortifying it, making it self sufficient with all the skills I have. I shall then proceed to clear the surrounding area of zombies while bringing back anything I can decorate my new base with.
Any ideas/suggestions are welcome.

be aware that there is a military blockade around louisville with alots of zeds in the refugee area and a few closed metalfences/gates.
better bring a sledge with you.
you can also try 2 other spots more in the east to get into louisville, with alot less zombies.
other than that, GL.

Military blockade you say? Does that mean there are humans with guns ready to shoot at me? I have an upgraded baseball bat, I also brought all my sledgehammers with me and every tool that exists. What does this military blockade entail? Probably a gathering of zombies outside a gate that I have to deal with I imagine.
Edit: I was planning on taking the straight road into Louisville from Muldraugh, heading into the heart of the city.

they plan this with the npc update.
then there will be military fighting normal civilians and zeds trying to leave the area.
but for now only zeds.

the blockade is like a checkpoint with few metal gates in a row.
in worst case you can be trapped with your car there.

Seems like there'd be lots of zeds either side of the borders so preventing any from going in or out would be a lost cause. As though they've got it under control in there. I'm the one whose gonna go in and sort things out, hopefully.

What are your population settings currently?
Playzr 🐵 Aug 19, 2022 @ 4:35pm
I would have to check to be certain but I think whatever builder mode has. I edited the scenario options since and didn't feel the need to alter the population settings.

There's 2 chainlink gates between you and Louisville Proper at the Military Checkpoint. They're weaker than other gates but still need a few smacks. You will need to be properly armed and armored to deal with not just the zombies at the checkpoint but around it too. The highway near the checkpoint is usually swarmed with a good number of the Knoxers. If you clear out the checkpoint you'll have plenty of good loot however and even more loot between the fence line. Have plenty of room in your vehicle for all the stuff because you'll need it as Louisville is a proper city. Many spots with highly sought after items but you'll find a lot of the dead bastards in the way of those items. Especially in areas like Hospitals or the Mall. It make take you DAYS to clear out an area so try and set up an Outpost in the city to rest up and store items before taking them to your proper base

I've loaded my truck with everything I'll need and there's more space. I used mods to expand its capacity so it's like a mobile base. I didn't take absolutely everything and left plenty back at the home base. I want to fight these large groups and see what cool loot I can find in this densely packed city. I'm ready to head out on a long road trip. I reckon I can take on large groups of zombies while avoiding being surrounded by them.

Just make sure you don't get cornered. You can't jump the fences as they're lined with barbed wire and there's no keys for the gates.

How do I get through these fences once I've cleared the surround area of zombos?

The gates. You gotta hit them to break them down. Otherwise you could go between the fences and get to one of the checkpoints inside the fence line with a gate. Those do open from the inside. Also it gives you more loot

Don't go into downtown Louisville with your large vehicle. You will be caught and surrounded, even on builder population. The suburbs will be sketchy and you'll bump into a few, but you should do alright to drive through them. I suggest you make a forward operation base in one of the mansions along the river, take a left at the crossway. They will give you pre-built walls and zero chance of zombies from one side.

Once you've gotten a feel for the city, then start making your way towards where you want to go. Scout it out with a smaller vehicle and clear the path pack to the FOB. That should make the drive in much less painful.

Once you're there, you'll want supplies. I suggest you hit the warehouse just North of the giant rail station, it's behind a gas station. After that the world is your oyster.

A good FOB is the gated 3 homes in the eastern half of the city. Only one way in for zombies and a pond for water and fishing. Fireplaces for warmth too

Thanks for all of your advice. So I should be cautious and look out for very large groups filling the street. I was hoping I could just drive past the groups down the road and hopefully not too many will be able to follow me so far, then when I arrive at the point I've picked out in the heart of the city it won't be too densely packed with zombies that I can deal with them. But you're saying even the big army truck won't be able to drive through so many. The alternative is to find a relatively empty area and then clear zombies along the way but that seems like there would be too many to fight. The army truck is good for driving through small groups without taking any significant damage, but because of how easily the cars have become damaged doing this I'm always cautious and prefer to get out and fight them, but the truck remains pretty much undamaged since I started using it. The last thing I want to do is plough into a huge mob of zombies only to get stuck and surrounded and be unable to push through. Maybe I should look at some videos to get an idea of how densely populated the roads are.

Correct, and that is a good idea.

Skim through this series out and you'll have a good idea for population sizes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIT1bGvz61o&t
