the "how to use generators" manual should not be in the game

it is not fun and is worth nobody's time. my favorite part of the manual existing is me cheating it in and saying that i'm balancing indie stone's game for them.

Why not just use the electrician occupation then, which starts with that knowledge.

Its not like your trying to connect a machine to a house capable of stopping your heart or anything. And they tend to go for a more realism approach for some things ingame, I would say needing to read how not to kill yourself with a generator, is on the realism side of this scale.

Its more like "how to connect the generator to the current". This isn't trivial, so I think its ok. But I don't like the rarity.

It's not a faulty mechanic, it's a mechanic that makes sense. It's quite easy to find the manual until you hit the day 30 mark. Which is usually the default time period before electricity gets shut off. Besides if something bugs you so much, there are mods out there that add generator knowledge traits. Seems like a minor inconvenience is enough for you to cheat in the game, so might as well get a mod to fix your problem?

it's poor game design and is to the benefit of no one. usually project zomboid does good job of walking the line between fun in realism and fun in the sense of it being a video game, but the generator manual is far too rare and pointless to even exist in the first place. if you had read my post you might notice that i did download a mod that gives me the manual

This is a game about survival and making choices to stay alive. In the real world you need to know how to hook up a generator and how to use them power load, watts, etc. It's more complicated than a standardized wall socket. To that end most people don't run their stuff on generators. Almost no one knows how to actually use them. It's a challenge. It's a milestone in this game. It's an essential thing like a sledgehammer or an established water source. If you can't find one then you need to make choices on how to survive best. As a milestone I don't think it should be easy to come by. Realistically it makes sense that it wouldn't be easy to come by. But if it's that big of a deal to YOU personally then cheat it into the game. There's probably even a mod for that. So you do you. Zomboid gives you tons of options for how you want to play and mods add to that even more. Balance the game to your hearts content. But just because YOU don't like something doesn't mean it should or shouldn't be in the game.
