what is the difference between all of the bandage items?
theres bandages and adhesive bandages and rags and stuff. Are they different or do they all perform the exact same?

yes, every bandage item has a different "power" which is just how fast they heal wounds.
Duckling Jun 8, 2022 @ 5:24am
adhesive bandages have a healing power of 1.5, as normal bandages have a healing power of 4.0
Duckling Jun 8, 2022 @ 5:25am
you can also sterilize bandages and ripped rags using boiled water, which does reduce your chances of getting an infection.

Adhesive bandages suck. They even weigh the same as the other bandages and can't be packed for better storage...not even sure they count as being sterilised either, or even can be. Can't be reused either. Also feels like they have less health than a bandage does too. Do they get applied faster than a bandage, maybe? You'd think you'd be able to rip one open and put it on a wound while moving, compared to a whole bandage.

Same as cotton balls when you disinfect them. You essentially triple the weight of having a full bottle of disinfectant in your inventory or something, 10 cotton balls are 3kg but a bottle of disinfectant is 0.3kg but they can both disinfect the same amount of things. Alcohol wipes too, 0.3 weight but can only be used like 5 times instead of 10. I think I read somewhere once that the bottle of disinfectant isn't as good at healing infections as the other two, but one dose from the bottle has always been enough to remove infected wounds for me, so I dunno.

They really need to sort the medical items, changing weights and functions to make it less clear cut which ones are better etc. Maybe the whole system itself, too. At some point. Make First Aid great again.

I never seen someone write multiple paragraphs on how trash low tier healing items are lol

Ripping rags from dead zombie clothing is more effective than hunting down adhesive bandages

I've never seen 5 of the 6 replies to a thread be from the same person either :steammocking:

There's a first for everything :greenrollball: that's pretty much a short post considering the kind of stuff I usually put out.

Definitely would enjoy seeing medical get a major overhaul at some point though. Although it's already been like 8 years so maybe we won't be seeing one any time soon :winter2019surprisedsnowman:

I always just keep a stash of ripped sheets or rags or whatever. And keep like 6-8 of them in my backpack at all times. Also a pack of alcohol wipes. Seems to work just fine. Though I don’t get wounded nearly as often as when I first started playing.

Well the entire first aid thing is fairly pointless. You're either totally unscratched or ripped into a thousand tiny pieces 99 percent of the time.

I agree with @Greb and @hardy_conrad (and many others), the medical system needs a serious overhaul, in addition to the infection system. First Aid is completely useless when a single hit has an RNG% chance to simply end you despite everything. Mods like Infection Threshold are a godsend in this regard. Here's hoping the whole thing gets re-imagined at some point.

Objectively false, but just don't get hit

I think the medical systems are fine. If you get into the situation where you were severally wounded just be lucky you're alive and pray for no zombification. But the medical systems are simple and just work as they are
ice Jun 8, 2022 @ 10:24am
adhesive bandages aren't useless, they are considered sterile, and they disappear after usage which means they're a quick easy patch to use temporarily without dirtying your nice sterile bandages, once you use them they are gone forever

rags are a lot worse than bandages unless you sterilize them, but if you're going to take the time to sterilize anything it might as well be real bandages, you will have an enormous number of them if you live long enough and they eternally renewable

the medical system is almost totally unneeded because unless you play non-infection settings you should never ever let zombies hit you, which means the only thing that can give you injury is stepping on glass, vaulting fences, car crashes, which are all terribly easy to avoid

the worst possible type of injury you can have is fractures, usually you get them from falling or rarely a car crash, which take an eternity to heal which is the only reason you might want to grind first aid

Fractures heal within 9-10 days. You regain 75% movement from a leg fracture within 2 days. This is with slow healer/thin skin/prone to illness lol
Its bad but not as game ending as people claim.
Burns are far more dangerous as your max HP is reduced 75%, you constantly get wound infections and suffer random extreme pain for the duration of the burn, which is weeks haha

it is nearly impossible to get a fracture in normal gameplay unless you are jumping out of 3 story windows for whatever dumb reason, or speeding and crashing your car
