How do you renew your melee weapons ?

Hey guys,

I'd like to clarify if it's just bad luck, a lousy part of the map or me that have missed something. In a few of my games, I nearly ran out of worthwhile melee weapons. I'm not talking about kitchen knives that last only a few swings or plungers that aren't good until you've got maintenance 10 or something.

New player, no or level 3 skills max, if you run out of weapon what to do ? Is there a method for farming those ? Stuff like crowbar seems pretty rare but I also enjoy police sticks or machetes & axes. I know about going to the police station to grab the stick but what to do afterwards ?

Falling back on hammers isn't bad but it's slow going ^^. No multi-hits, not much reach, takes 6 swings to conk out a hard-headed Z and most of all, it's really not as fun as swinging a crowbar. There's just something special about walking around with a crowbar lol.

If you absolutely have no weapons around you to use just make a spear. If you been getting your skills up it should be decent, if not sure at low levels they break but you can be literally anywhere in the game and have something close to you (whether a tree or chairs\furniture) that you can turn into a spear if you have the tools. Just make a small stack of them and shove zombies like normal till you need to actually fight a bunch then use your spear. Don't bother to repair them, when they break just gift them to a dead zombie

Like others have said, crowbar at early stages when you have no skills is life out here. Go raid the nearest warehouse and cross your fingers.

Not true. A singular spear can outlast every axe on the map.

The axe will eventually become unable to be repaired. The spear doesn't suffer from this issue, long as you're doing it right. You could make a spear reasonably, just about anywhere. A crafted axe is a little lackluster compared to a snazzy fireaxe. A machete+spear only gets better.

You'll kill 3x the amount with a spear than you would an axe, even to exhaustion.

Only if you assume equal skill. Getting to 8 skill with an axe, where you can reliably 1-hit just about every time, is extremely easy with a Lumberjack start. Getting to 9-10 skill with a spear for the same effect takes tens of thousands of zombie kills. The kind of carnage you are never realistically going to come anywhere close to. That's without mods/altered XP values of course.

Not really. I don't think spear skill has anything to do with spear fishing? Could be wrong there. Not like it matters when trapping+farming exist. Regardless, given an infinite supply of axes (easily obtained by just killing zeds), the benefits don't outweigh anything. Axe kills more reliably at an equal skill level, with the same speed. It does cost more endurance, but you could invest the frankly absurd time you would be putting into spears into fitness instead, and not really have to worry about endurance anymore.

You can't farm with an axe, nor can you reliably obtain a steady amount of axes for both work and play. Fitness/Strength would take exponentially longer, you're always better off taking them from the very start.

You're going to kill them anyways. You might as well kill them efficiently.
