Do you guys use flashlights ?
I mean as a tool to illuminate your way around at night not as construction stuff. I've found two models... but never really got around to use them. They seems too restrictive too. No crafting recipe to tape one to your helmet ? Come on !!!

Sometimes, sure. Garages be dark
Animalman Jul 5, 2022 @ 7:07pm
Yes even with cats eyes the inside of buildings can get dangerously dark. I use the small flash light. Sometimes grab the big flash light. When established I get on a day night cycle so don’t use flashlight that much but I usually use it a lot as I am travelling and establishing territory

I've heard the big one have a better light radius. Is there any other differences ? Does one use up more batteries ?
Animalman Jul 5, 2022 @ 7:21pm
The big one has a huge radius in comparison to the little one. The big one can also be used in carpentry to make a type of flood light. I don’t know if it makes you more conspicuous or not though

I mainly do the little one for the weight reduction

This is a good mod, you can attach your flashlight without holding it

The Flashlight has roughly double the radius AND angle as the Hand Torch, but it lasts less than half as long on one battery and weighs twice as much.

Oh wow, thanks for the info. Damn.... I was hoping to use the big one. If it was merely the weight I wouldn't mind at all but half the duration is brutal. I guess I'll go around using the small one squinting my eyes.

I checked out the mod and it's great. Seems really balanced and also add some logical stuff. I'll try it out.

Absolutely, pitch black is the only way to play
WarMage Jul 5, 2022 @ 11:01pm
G0d damn, I'm really not sure I've got the balls. I've already have bad eyes.... I don't think going balls to the grinder full dark mode will agree with me.

I dont really bother with flashlights on default settings, but I use them on darkest night setting that I usually use.
Cameo Jul 5, 2022 @ 11:17pm
I don't use flashlights. I usually just take Cat's Eyes. Yeah it can get dark indoors even with that, but I don't typically raid at night, and if for some reason I absolutely had to I'd just back out of the darkened area and make noise to draw out any zeds. Zombies are stupid and that's your biggest advantage. That's why using a fence is tactically one of your best options in the beginning of the game where you're really weak.

Up until now I've done the same as Cameo, after all there's loads of stuff you can do indoors like exercise or read skill books. This is on a multiplayer server by the way. However I recently came across a dead player with some kind of modded pink backpack and it had a hand torch attached to the side. Out of curiousity I started experimenting with it and learned I could activate the hand torch while it was attached. In other words without having to use one of my hands. VERY useful. Because the pack is one of the many mods on the server, I'm not sure if this kind of thing is possible in all games, but if it is highly recommended.

It sounds like it's part of the Better Flashlights mod mentioned above.

The cats eyes perk is useful for this, but there can still be some dark interiors without any windows that are basically pitch black. Having to choose between holding a weapon to hit any zombies or holding a flashlight to see them coming. I would suggest a one handed weapon while using a flashlight.
