Is the 5.56 caliber rifles the best way to get the job done?
im playing with brita weapon pack and superior survivor mods, so hostile NPC's with guns pose a threat. Normally i would say shotguns are great, and they still are for clearing Zombies but for killing raiders you need the range and the ergonomics of the 5.56 caliber rifles with proper attachments

I don’t know about in real life.

But because of the full auto option I think you pay a lot for the full auto option. I’ve used it and it can be effective but its hard to keep track of your bullets and to weigh up whether or not the number of bullets you shot was the necessary number to shoot.

if you arent a news journalist then the recoil irl isnt that hard to control if you somewhat knowledgeable on how guns shooty shoot
i shot the m14 at level 4 or and 5 aiming and it was effective nearly every shot. Hardly ever a miss.
A silenced M16 with a 4x scope (the Goldilocks distance) is equal to most tasks in PZ. Not sure if the recoil pad does anything in game (according to some), but I fit it anyway.

Anything over 7.62 seems like a waste, but then again, I never passed up an M60 or anything using .50 BMG...it would be bad manners not to at least dump a box or two of rounds into anything that moves with them and then store them away for a rainy day.

Oh, if you put 2 or 3 rounds into an NPC while zeds are around, don't finish them, they run off trying to patch themselves up and get mobbed...it is hilarious and serves them right for attacking you.

It was basically a modified M1 Garrand. Terrible ergonomics, not particularly accurate. It was only the official service rifle for about 5 years before being replaced by the m16, which is the shortest service life for a rifle in US history.

It was so bad that it was one of the reasons the Springfield Armory was shut down in 1968.
