How do you manage your Energy / Tiredness ?
Hey guys,

Another quick reflexion. It's about tiredness this time. After playing for a while I have a good feel of the character default combat capabilities and it seems we get tired really quickly. Tiredness seems to be a huge roadblock into much activities. Changing a car tire will ruin half of your day same as going through 30-40 zombies.

So I'm wondering how do you guys handle that ? I wish there was a way to recover tiredness or that the character would get tired a bit more slowly. The reason why is because if you accidentally aggro some Zs and must deal with them then you tend to ruind your plans for that day. Same goes with a few activities like mechanic that will drain most of your available energy for the day.

Keeping in mind that zombies respawn rather quickly in this game and also don't forget the "roaming" mechanic it result in a fairly dense and consistent zombie supply all around. Meaning that you do get into fight more often than not.

So how do you guys manage your energy ? Tiredness seems to be the biggest issue I'm facing at the moment. It limit my daily activities significantly. Also, it seems a total waste to have that entire weapon / combat system and avoid it at all costs.

I have a few tips to reduce your energy consumption.
1. Just dont run lmao
2. use lighter weapons such as short blunts or something
3. Do not become overweight, be mindful of what you are eating
4. Just dont run lmao

Tiredness isnt really avoidable but doing heavy actions such as construction will make you tired faster. but you can eat coffee grounds or brew coffee itself to reduce your tiredness temporarily. (brewing coffee gets rid of the unhappiness)

there is a perk that reduces the number of hours needed to recover fatigue significantly

Try playing on 2 or 3 hour per day timescale. You get much more time in the day to do things and it means you don't have to worry about your moodles/energy so much and gives you more time to mess around doing things at home/on the road such as arranging inventory or crafting without half the day passing by. I find 3 hour time scale to be the best for 'realism', although it will make the game slightly 'easier' in some regards as you'll be able to travel greater distances in a day or less.

You can recover fatigue by resting at any chair/bed, it usually only takes a moment especially if you are utilising the speed up time function. Try not to run around, you can outrun zombies by simply walking and lose them by breaking LOS and sneak circling buildings once you have the majority grouped up and following you. Also I believe eating vitamins will increase your energy or slow down the rate you become fatigued.

I also eat a large meal before leaving the safehouse on a run but I'm not entirely sure if that actually does anything for your energy/fatigue level itself.

Try to sleep in a proper bed every night and go to bed soon after the first "tired" moodle pops up. If you become overtired it can really mess up your days as you end up sleeping till 9pm and if you haven't got power/lighting then you'll be stuck in the dark for a while. You can fix your sleep pattern by using sleeping pills to force yourself to sleep at a particular time. If you sleep when you first get the moodle, you should sleep for around 8 hours and be set for walking miles the next day - key point is to try and walk everywhere and only run in emergency or if you are in a rush for example it's getting dark and you have no flashlight. If you find walking long distances tedious a neat trick is to use the right click and "walk to" function and then speed up time as you walk. Using this makes the game far less tedious if you are playing 6+ months later as most vehicles will be unusable without doing work on them first.

that does reduce how much fatigue generates from actions, yes

with this essay i'd atleast expect you to expand upon coffee more, rippu
Duckling Jul 3, 2022 @ 3:10pm
Coffee reduces your fatigue by 50 but gives you 20 unhappiness
Tea reduces your fatigue by 15 but gives you 10 unhappiness
Brewing them in a kettle does remove the unhappiness debuff, making them both viable to keep on going based on how tired your character is at the time. Though coffee replenishes your thirst by 60 and tea replenishes your thirst by 10. so keep in mind your characters hydration.

edit: Forgot to mention that both make your character hungry.
Coffee makes your character 30 points more hungry
Tea makes your character 5 points more hungry.

Someone in the official discord beginning of the year said they take naps like a hour something like that and it helped greatly, cant remember their name though.

ya that would kind but could also be a waste of time

Guess what...
You don't need a chair, bed, or vehicle to rest - you can just sit down on the ground.
Be aware that it takes several seconds to get back up, so if you're being chased, it's risky.

While sitting, you can hold right-click and pan in all directions to see if anythings coming at you.
Generally, you won't recover enough to sprint, sit & rest, then get up and do it again - to get away from mobs, but every second you're sitting down will add up.

Sitting on the ground and resting is inefficient, the comfort bonus chairs and beds give you is very beneficial and makes you recover your exertion faster.

Yep, totally true - but you don't always have chairs/beds conveniently available, and not everyone knows you can just sit anywhere.

I switched to two hour days after around 50 hours in game, combined with the -need more sleep, need more food, and need more water -perks, the whole thing feels more realistic imo. I also have the hard of hearing perk, and altogether they free up a lot of positive points to pick a bunch of positive traits.. Still see it as a learning process, and I might switch back at some point. Still getting bitten lol

Especially helps when you're out in the middle of nowhere and you need some stamina in a pinch to use your melee weapon.

It's a balancing act so to speak - swing, kill a few, rest for a seconds, swing, kill, rest until it's clear at times.
Duckling Jul 3, 2022 @ 4:54pm
just periodically build chairs. its a method we old farts used back in Build 39, just building chairs along the highways and backroads to rest when you're too exerted.

I plan for what I am going to do in an outing. If I am going out on a fighting patrol, I will bring extra food and vitamins, coffee and an extra weapon. Any labour intensive activities, like hunting for (heavy) items like furniture, generators, etc. I make sure to clear out the area first or at lease recce its activity before I commit. I plan my rests accordingly for multiple day outings, but if area area threat becomes too much and I get tired out too fast, I just retreat and come back later. Fatigue and tiredness just increases the risk, but is generally a balancing act as others have mentioned in this post. Good luck!
