Access inventory of backpack on corpse?
Through a misadventure involving a skylight, I recently fell to my death, and at the time, I had a backpack full of materials. Now, this was a modded backpack, with a carry capacity of 50, and it was completely full. Upon returning to my corpse, I seem to be unable to take the pack off my old corpse because it is too heavy. I have tried stripping naked to have as much carry capacity as possible, I've tried using the place function to move it onto the ground, I've tried equipping it, and none of those work. Any suggestions on how to solve this?

EDIT: For clarification, this is on a multiplayer server hosted by a friend.

Have you tried emptying the pack onto the ground first, then trying to pick it up to equip it?

You may be able to move the pack from the zombie to the floor. That should allow you to access it as though it's another container.

You still have to be able to lift it to place it, unfortunately

I can't directly access the pack's inventory. It is part of the corpse's inventory, with the corpse having the pack 'equipped.'

Have tried that, it seems too heavy.

I've had this happen!

It was grapeseed or something, there's a Cleaner Crew backpack I had. Same deal, it maxed out the weight like you said. I wasn't able to fix it, but my buddy could do it just fine.

Unsure of whether he just picked it up or dragged it off, but if you're in a MP setting, you could ask a homie to try and help.

the easiest fix is not playing with anything that goes over 50kg cus thats the max a character can hold and a good way to lose items

That's what I ended up doing after getting the backpack back. Traded for a satchel and never turned back.

You can try Cheat Menu in workshop, has an option like unlimited carrying weight or something like it.
Unsub it after you take back your pack if you really don't like the word 'Cheat'.

Which one is that? There are several that I see.

Okay, I've tried enabling admin controls and giving myself unlimited carry weight. Still does not work? Any thoughts? I am also unable to find the item ID for the items I was carrying (the metal rain barrels you find at the Louisville checkpoint camp), so I can't seem to spawn in replacements either.

Bring a car or build a crate next to the body
The trunk of the car should be next to the body

Make sure both the inventory of the body + crate \ trunk is open.
Drag backpack directly into crate \ trunk

That worked to get it off the corpse, so at least I don't have to worry about losing the pack when the body rots. But, with the pack in the trunk of the car, it's the same situation. Can't access the pack's inventory directly, and it's too heavy to wear/equip.

I think you'd be better off in this case communicating your issue with the mod creator for whatever pack you were using.

Sorry for late reply, couldn't find thread.

I thought you knew but if you just dragged the bag out of car \ container back onto floor you can just take things out of it.

Just remember rule of thumb
If a container is in a Container you can't take things out of it.
But if a container is on the floor ( including backpacks ) you can take things out.

I know this is a little bit of an older thread so I do apologize for the necro. However, I experienced the same thing you went through and found out how I could fix it. I'm not sure if this will work with every situation but. I'm using the tactical backpack from Brita, has like 59 carry weight. I died, couldn't loot it. However, dragging the backpack from the corpse to the ground worked, ONLY if I did it by dragging the bag completely out of the inventory screen. If I tried dragging the bag to the floor through the inventory Icon, I was unable to move. Dragging any item out of the inventory menu in anyway will drop it to the floor. Once the bag is on the floor, drag some items out to get the weight down to 40, pick it back up and equip it, then pick your dropped items up. It seems our character ignores the carry weight with this method. I tried 3 times with 3 different bags over 50. All of them worked only with this method.
