(Plumbing) Connecting more than one rain collector for one sink?

Before animation update, rain collectors using in plumbing can work as a network, now I noticed the sink's position is not in the old way, so if the collectors still can be connected? Or is there some pattern for this(there was a pattern before animation)?

The rain collectors still connect, but you only get water from one at a time. This means if you have two connected, you will have 400 units of water available, which is one barrel, after that barrel is completely drained, it ill switch to the other barrel and you will have an additional 400 units. This also means, if the barrel has 1 unit of water left, you will only have that one unit available and will have to finish it before you get to use the other barrel. It is very odd that this happened, before the animation update you would have both barrels available at all times.

Not side by side, they have to be offset one tile from the sink. I usually put one in front of and one behind the sink, one level up. Putting them to the left and right of the sink works also and hooking up four barrels to one sink should work, although I have never done this myself. The sink also must be someplace that is considered indoors, meaning a temperature difference from outside.

The pattern changed. I built a functional water filtration system, just like this:

'O' is rain barrel, '@' is a rain barrel directly above the sink, '#' is also a rain barrel. All one level up.
So all 'O' and the '@' barrels can supply water to the sink. The '#' can't. I think they simplified the water supply network, finally. Now we can have 9 barrels for 1 sink, 3600 units of water sounds pretty good.
Though I have many mods and version is still 41.65(GoG) so if someone like to test it in vanilla game then you have my appreciates.
