If it's fatal it's probably a sign that you got infected by a zombie. Nausea is one of the symptoms of the zombie virus.
Don't live or sleep around corpses
Stay warm and well fed to avoid colds
Disinfect all wounds with alcohol and always use a sterilised rag/bandage (you only need to disinfect once, no need to repeat if re-bandaging the wound with another sterilised rag).
This will keep you healthy. The only thing that cannot be treated or prevented in the vanilla game is the Knox virus. A bite will kill you, a laceration might kill you and a scratch probably won't (if treated properly).
This is not an easy game for any noobs IMO, it will punish you repeatedly...but you will learn how to even the odds and get better as you go.
First off, bandage quality and such are irrelevant (for the topic) afaik.
When you get hit you roll some dices and may or may not end getting Z-infection. If you have it, you will die soon and it's damn easy to fiigure it out because you will get the moodle really quick after but no flu specific symptoms or a fast fever like with food poisoning.
Now, a wound can get infected, but it doesn't make you sick - it cause pain mainly. Having a wound does slow you down one way or another so while it's a good idea to take care of them it can also be totally ignored after the first bandage (stopping the bleeding).
Assuming you didn't get hit by a zombie, and still get sick :
It's possible you were wet/cold and caught a cold/flu sickness. It's somewhat dangerous if you don't take care because how fever works, so if you see some symptoms like sneezes better get somewhere safe with a good bed, plenty of water, and some food (for the health regen bonus) and say here untill the fever is gone.
However it's also possible you ate something poisonous or drunk some tained water. You get food poisoning. Depending on the quantity you can just be a bit sick or get a fever that kill you. It's a fast process, usually matter of hours.
If that's not of the above, for example if you go home and stop feeling sick after & didn't lost any health on the first moodle, it's probably corpse sickness. It's a hidden meter that goes up if you are near some corpses and make you sick, but immediately go does down with no corpses (or only a handfull) around. Game check for corpses in natural/regular building if you are in it, otherwise it check for any corpse outside of natural building if you are not inside one. Player made houses count as outside, so you NEED an already made building to protect from corpses disease if you don't intend to remove the corpses around you or move further away from them regulary.
It's quite hard to get this sickness to a point it's deadly if you know how it works. You can even delete corpses on large trash bin if you want to, or bury them, or burn them (the later option being reserved for people that don't mind dying by accident).
Appreciate the breakdown. I think its because I got scratched by a Z. Though I did disinfect it and apply clean bandages I think all that did no good as I attracted the virus most likely?
Anyway, Ill try to not get bit or scratched as always. Just thought it could be something else. Thank you for your help.
I believe that was the case too
The symptoms for zombie infection are Queasy, Nervous Wreck, and Unpleasantly Hot.
For Scratches, I just assume I didn't get bad RNG and, for Bitten, I already know what to expect, so that leaves Lacerations. When I get a Laceration, I try to go to sleep ASAP and see if the aforementioned moodles show up to know immediately if I was infected.
Nothing can save you if you've been infected, but you have plenty of time before you turn, so it's best to go to a safe spot and unload all your weapons and gear for your next character, then go somewhere and die.
I've also heard (but have never tried it) that drinking Bleach will prevent you from turning into a zombie so, if you have some Bleach around, you can skip the step of going outside and looking for zombies to kill you.
Gotcha. Thanks again :)
