If you want to mess with the game files you can edit the players.db file with a database editor (SQLite Studio) for example.
Lastly though, the map doesnt disappear when you die, you can always load back in with a new character. If you want to make sure to backup the map you can save the "map_visited" file in the save folder.
I have decided that I'll abandon the idea and I'll raise the previous character's stats via admin panel. Since both the map and the markers on it stay, it should not be too big a concern.
