You can use rats for stir fry. You just need a knife to butcher them first, which will give you small animal meat. The small animal meat can then be added to a stir fry or other recipe. Cockroaches and other insects can't be added to recipes, but they do give pretty nice cooking xp if you have a bunch of extra ones and just throw them in the oven to level up.

if you chopped it from a rat it is. Your just gonna have to eat a roach, then chase it with yer rat fry. Or dig into the world of modding.

Your only option now is to enter the world of modding.

The developers, with great forethought and wisdom, added full modding support for all the people that want something in their game that either isn't in yet, or might not ever be developer added.

They gave you these tools and options to make the Rat fry exactly as you need it, even if they aren't going to be adding it.

Make it your zombie world, with the Indie Stone blessing of full mod support.

btw there is a mod you might like that lets you "prepare cockroaches" (and crickets), and you can either then cook them 1 at a time, or can put 5 of a skewer for a mini kebab (with different recipes for spicy sauces and powders to go with them) :) - saved me a few times while trying to find more food :)

Actually the roaches have now the uncooked tag, so there is likely a recipe to prepare them as a meal:)
