Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

the difficulty is stupid
I am sorry but i need to let this out...

I have played A LOT of survival games and horror and zombies and bla bla bla but some parts of this are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous, i have come to terms with avoiding fights and such as they can be dangerous with melee.

I recently AGAIN made a character after dieing fifty times, played VERY carefully to avoid death, leveled up a bunch of stuff, like my blunt damage and sneaking and sprinting and carpentry and everything, put hours into it.

Then i die because i was a smidge too close to the fire while boiling water... i didnt stand on it or from my perspective anywhere too close, no warning, nothing, suddenly i spontaneously combust and turn into the beacon of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Gondor and loose all my skills and items because i turnt to Ash.

lol.... really??? the base difficulty is ok to burn to death within seconds while standing next to a fire... there should be some sort of warning witht he levelling system at least.. saying something like you are getting too warm

Do you want a solution now or do you just want to be mad? I doubt this post is entirely about fire, at any rate.

You can turn off fire in sandbox for now.

At some point the old fire code will be replaced.

i would'nt mind a solution but the response i received was a bit blunt, "turn it off" seemed a bit like, if you dont like it deal with it.

the post is entirely about the fire, i came to terms with the zombie difficulty as it seemed like a reasonable reality difficulty, and ive adapted, but putting hours into a game just to die from standing a smidge too close to a fire seems a bit annoying, which seems like a common issue within the posts of the hub. there should be a bit of a warning that youre about to burst into flames. i am fine if you are saying youre working on this but your original response gave off a vibe like you just dont care...

Yep, would be cool for the planned fire rework. Maybe a sound if not a visual indicator of the character being too close.

YES thank you thats the reply i was looking for...would be ideal
I mean. They are rather honest about you not surviving. It's the first thing the game tells you.

once you have played a bit you are going to be like "this game is too easy"
Synizer May 25, 2022 @ 11:32am
i mean... it all depends... the only survival games i find are those that are eihter not my style or too easy. if i could make the game harder by vanilla i would do it hahaha

you are not as good as you think you are if you are dying this much.

My guy, take a minute to check when the original fire code was put in place and where the game is now. Not only are there more devs, the game itself is significantly different.

It's not ideal. For what it was when it was implemented, it was fantastic. There is planned rework but it will take time.

In this particular case, yes, this is how you died. You do have the ability to backup saves if you're really worried about losing characters because of dumb reasons instead of "legitimate" reasons.

You should just get gud...at backing up your saves. I play legit for the excitement. I save scum when I want to power level and build big bases. And on that note the save files are like 10,000 tiny files. I worry about what effect all those read and write cycles are having on my SSD.

is it even needed to use a campfire? i mean.. i can see it being needed in certain playstyles but not if you play normally... every closed room has kind of a higher temp naturally. it wont cool down. you also have ovens you can find to use them as source of warmth and use it as source to heat water. if you dont find one before the start of winter then i dont know what peeps are doing all day then

yea ive been there, never happened twice though! Now i keep a clear perimiter haha. Also a bucket of water next to the fire to douse myself just in case. There is a way to savescum and back up your saves before you start each session, maybe that is something you want to try to save yourself the agony of a complete wipe while learning the mechanics.

remember this game does not care how skilled you are, how many days you have survived, or whether you have every possible positive trait. 1 mistake will kill you. Just ended a vanilla run over 3 months survived and prepped for winter to a laceration from a sneaky zombie that came up behind me while building after having thought i cleared my whole area. I know the feeling of a less than spectacular death.

Skill journal mod is your savior, you won't lose skills, as long as you have the jornal with your previous experience, if you find deaths a little unfair, or just want to have less punishing game.

As for burning near campfire, are you sure you were burned by standing near it adn not on it? You could have accidentally entered the campfire tile.
