Burning to death
Had a pile of about 60+ zombies in the street. Decided to burn them, so I built a campfire, as it seemed only one body would burn at a time, despite them being in a massive pile.

I made a campfire on the bodies and lit it, nothing happened, aside from the campfire burning. I moved a corpse on top and still nothing ,but my character instantly ignited. About 4-5 seconds later, with nothing I could possibly do, I instantly die at full health. The journal I was writing in for multiplayer, and 30 hours instantly just gone due to this mechanic. Why make this a thing in a permadeath game? I like catching on fire and getting horrific burns just as much as the next guy, but 4 seconds from full hp... Really? I looked on some forums and have come to find out this has been an ongoing issue for well over 5 months. I would REALLY appreciate someone taking a look at this, as it seems I'm not the only unfortunate fool that decided to clean up all of the corpses scattered around my house. Also, I know the fire extinguisher puts ♥♥♥♥ out, but that's not going to cut it. What am I supposed to do? Carry one on me just in case? Please look into this IndieStone. I work slightly over 90 hours a week, so I was excited to get to play a video game, as a rare treat. This was just tragic though. Hours of my life instantly gone. Amazing stuff.

I don't think that needs to be reworked as it is working fine. I have died in fires before and learned what not to do. Making new characters does not bother me much.

As we now know, the logical order to burn zombies in a campfire, is to place the campfire first. Then drop all the bodies on top of the campfire (not inside it like a stove to cook) Then light the fire.

To absolutely make sure every corpse will burn you may use the walk to command and walk right to the campfire then drop corpse...not on a lit fire of course. Light the fire AFTER you pile the bodies on top of the tile that has the campfire.

When near any fire, be wary and do not sprint or run. The walk to option is useful when you need to walk near a fire and don't trust yourself to not step into it. I use this walk to option now when I am preparing meals on a campfire or even just going to sit near a fire in the winter.

Extra takes on the useful walk to tool:
(The walk to tool is useful when building a roof or walking near edges where a fall can end your life)
(The walk to tool is great for traversing deep woods and forests where trees become invisible and hard to navigate)

I don't think the burn time for a burning player will see much dev changes either (maybe though), but i imagine it is something you could mod if you really do like to catch on fire as much as the next guy. Once was enough for me.

Having to tip toe around game mechanics is exactly why I suggest a rework. DayZ was torn a new rear end by it's players because of silly design flaws like standing in a fire for a similar example would only show a message in the bottom of your screen "my face is melting" not even kidding. As a developer myself, it's not exactly something that I think players would enjoy. I understand having to place a fire under the bodies, but when trying to drop them over it, it appears as if they're under it regardless. I placed the fire first and brought the bodies to it just for a reference. I don't see how burning to death so quickly is a good thing, especially in a game about surviving until the end. Imagine you're telling your bro's about your zomboid adventure only to tell them you died from accidentally over salting your pasta.

Anyways, thank you all for the replies. I shall burn bodies by throwing a molotov at them or something. I'm afraid to get near it now, since it's apparently napalm.
Dump the corpses in a trash container (the blue one) and click "Delete all".

For the campfire method they ALL need to be DIRECTLY ON TOP of the fire to burn, also, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS put out the fire before ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around near it.

And yes, if messing with fire, or planning to mess with fire, keep an extinguisher nearby

Good God this game has a multitude of strange design flaws. Thanks for the response. Hope they decide to rework this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Lost all of my keys and the journal I was writing in, since it apparently burns everything in your inventory as well. Guess I'm starting from square one.

Wish we could go prone by holding the crouch button. Then if you press the sprint key while prone you'd roll. Then you could stop drop and roll to try and put yourself out (among other things you could do while being prone, of course)

I think you can dump any carried water on you to help too? Dunno.

Eventually, the bodies will decay. This is depends on your settings of course. As long as you aren't hanging around the corpses shouldn't do much more than offend the eyes.

If you play with fire - you are going to get burned.

In sandbow you can also set how much time for corpses to naturally decompose, if you set it for like a day or two, you have enough time to loot them and they won't bother you for too long. That's how I deal with corpses.

Also if you don't like the permadeath aspect, you can compress your save file to back up your save, when you die you just unzip it and restart from there. Not ideal, but there are workarounds around mechanics you might dislike, which is nice.

Just stand back a little before selecting the burn corpse option and your character will auto move to the closest point to complete the action. I haven't burned myself since I first started playing using this method.
