Project Zomboid

Any way to enable something like God Mode in single player?
So, I've had a long term survival game where I've been alive for about 3 months at this point. Killed hundreds of zombies, got loads of traits etc. It's the longest I've ever been alive in this game. This of course means it's the perfect time for my wife to run in literally hysterical as the queen died today (RIP). i should have paused but didn't and it totally put me off long enough for me to make a stupid mistake and get surrounded by zoms! I exited the game literally as they surrounded me and are likely going to bite and/or drag me down on reload. :(

I'm really annoyed that my longest play through and all my hard work for weeks is all going to end just because I got put off. Is there any way to salvage this and enable something like a God Mode, just long enough to get me out of this?? Really hoping there is, as at this point I doubt I'll ever get this far in the game again, so it'd probably be signing off and moving on if not as this would just be too frustrating.

Add -debug to the launch options on Steam, no need for workshop. Then load your game, have your mouse at the top right of the screen ready to click that pause button the instant you're in. At the top left of the screen there's a new icon to open up the debug menu, on which there's a "cheats" option.

Now you'll want two cheats from the cheat menu, God mode will fix your hp at full and render you immune to infection and any damage, fast movement will allow you to use the arrow keys to shift yourself out from under the horde while the game is still paused.

I did exactly this a while back when my phone rang, I pressed escape to pause in the middle of fighting a horde, but it didn't register (probably something to do with my dual monitor setup) and I was surrounded by the time I was undistracted enough to notice.

It's possible when you unpause that your character will be stuck in place, locked in the middle of some animation of being eaten. You can fix this by exiting and loading back in (which you'll need to do to deactivate debug mode anyway).

That sucks, yeah as someone pointed out there is a cheat mod out there, enable it and away you go.

But if you made it that long you can do it again.

Or you can just have a new char load, on your save, get all his loot, keep his base. But the trait part, yea new char would have to start over. If you kept some dvd's I mean vhs, that will speed things up a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just tried this but it seems to load some menu with a load of coding windows and no game window. Is there a trick to get the actual game window working?

Thanks. I'll likely look for that if I can't get the debug option working.

Really? Odd, tested it just now, the game loads in just fine, albeit with a quick scenario select on the main menu and a debug text log in game. Since I've never experienced what you describe, I've no idea how one would fix it.

Sorry for the loss of your progress.

But "wife hysterical about the death of the queen" is probably the best "This is how you died" I've yet to encounter :DukeCash:

you can also make a backup first in C:\Users\yourpcname\Zomboid\Saves\+ mode you are in like sandbox i pack them with winrar its quick and easy.

i would suggest you definitely make a backup of your save - at worst you may still be able to salvage your character from there and put them in a new world (maybe even the same world - since sometimes zombies disappear lol)

the game loading into the code screen implies that it is breaking due to an error with a mod - do you have any mods loaded?

but F11 should put you back in the game - just be sure to pause as soon as you can to try and activate the cheats

but if a mod is throwing weird errors then it may jump back to the break screen again - but possibly not if paused

either way - i suggest making sure you have a backup and then trying F11 if it always loads into the break screen

also if you hit F11 then immediately hit escape you should be able to click the mod list on the right and see which mod is throwing the error (should be highlighted in red) - and try deactivating it

and if nothing works - then cheat menu may work - but i don't know if that can be activated while paused - but there may be simpler invincibility mods that activate as soon as you load

good luck :-)

Have to say, I did think the same! It's a funny story for sure. :)

Thank you btw - this worked for me! I managed to load up my save and run away just long enough to enable this before I bled to death! So glad I haven't lost this play though!!

To make it feel a bit less like a full on cheat I also used this same cheat menu to re-add a ton of the damage that almost killed me while just not adding the bites (I've got infection passes by saliva only on my game). Made it pretty fun having to make it back to my safe house while almost dead. :)
