Playing on 4k tv - Cannot change resolution - Help, pls.
This game is nearly impossible to play on my tv at 4k, even with the text size increased. I tried to change the resolution down to 1920x1080, but it just auto changes it back to 4k. So, I tried changing the Options.ini to 1920 and then changed the file type to Read Only. However, the game decides to just be hidden in the background while claiming to be running on Steam.

What do I do?

Make sure you are not playing in Borderless mode, as that always scales to the max.

I can't recall if PZ has a switch for Exclusive Fullscreen and Borderless Window or not. I would start there I think. Borderless most likely will try and revert to your desktop resolution but true fullscreen should be able to use whatever you set.

Edit: Ninja'd

I have tried it in both Fullscreen and Borderless. Same results.

Set the game to windowed.
Quit to desktop.
Set your computer's display settings to 1920x1080.
Re-launch the game.
Set to fullscreen mode again.
Now, fullscreen will go to 1920x1080 instead.
This is the only fix I've found so far.

this shouldn't happen if you run in fullscreen rather than borderless window. unfortunate to have to do that, but the only other options are to run a different system resolution or run the game in 4k

This is me uninstalling, and the developers are lucky I bought this years ago when I had a 1080p display. If I had bought this game today it would absolutely be getting returned this very moment I am typing this.

You got my money, but fix your damn game please. This is insane.
Even with all the options checked to enlarge font sizes, it's still difficult to read - and I want to play at 1080p or 1440p - NOT 4K.

This needs a fix.

just yesterday i discovered that UI and font scaling didn't immediately apply when i was changing them, so i changed them all and restarted until i got a decent size. i think there is a tooltip that says it doesn't apply until after a restart, but i've been tinkering with my settings for months and only just yesterday saw it

mentioning this just for what it's worth, i have a 60" 4k tv i use as a display and recently set up two monitors in addition to the TV. two displays on my gpu and one on integrated graphics. it took me about 45 minutes to get them working properly after i'd spent probably over an hour prior assembling and customizing my setup to allow me to mount everything together. a significant portion of the time spent attempting to arrange my displays properly i stumbled across many threads of people with 4k displays having similar issues to mine, acting in similar manner to droaan

one big difference between myself and these other people who were requesting support, seems to be that i just tried things until i either gave up or got it to work. in addition to that, after i had these extra monitors set up, i decide to mess with pz settings to see if i can get a playable borderless windowed version to work, and i did! in 4k, with an upscaled UI, because i just put the time in to either get what i wanted or concede and use 1080

in all honestly i'm pretty sure the reason nobody wants to play in 4k is because when you're too far away to easily read the text it's quite a bit more difficult to play the game. understandable, but don't blame the devs for your wonky config and poor eyesight. it's been said so many times already that the game wasn't meant to be played on large displays, the fact it doesn't really work right is no surprise regardless of the game's age

the amount of entitled and demanding people that have hounded pz's community - not even for 4k support, but frankly just the sub-optimal scaling - really just leads me to believe the people who have these advanced and expensive displays are extremely pompous, and have no respect for the game, its community, or its excellent developers who work so hard to give us pz.

This is me golf clapping while you uninstall an early access game that apparently was satisfactory when you bought it 'years ago' but is no longer satisfactory because 'you' changed your hardware to something they have not yet developed for. Now you and your entitlement can be on your way.

Idk if its me but reading and Ui at 4k doesnt bother me, so long as its a 32 inch+ screen you'll be fine..

Its those 24 inch 4k screens that are the issue here.
