Latest stable patch (41.73). We're just across the street and only can hear distant proximity VOIP. As soon as I'm getting far enough, i just stop hearing him, but the text chat still works
It's working fine for me on the latest patch, vanilla, no mods.
You both have to equip it on secondary. It doesn't work when you holster it on your belt (wich could actually be a feature, at least for listening).
You can also "place" radios on several spots inside a building, leaving it on, to have constant communication with your teammates. We tested this and it works, the range is about 7-10 meters more or less. (don't remember tile size or other PZ measurement for distances).
If the proximity VOIP works and you can talk when being close, then radios should, at least that's my case. Check if there is any mod conflict or maybe one of you is doing something wrong (frecuency, holstering the radio, not equipping it, deactivated the mic)
Try another server without mods that handle or modifies the "radio" files...
I'll check it again with someone else and then turn on the mod. Maybe it was a problem on his side...
