Changing sandbox settings mid game
I would like to change some of the sandbox options mid game, especially the zombie population and was wondering what the best method would be?

I read on the project zomboid subreddit that you can do the following:

1. Start new game with the sandbox settings you want.
2. Start new game, spawn in and then exit the game.
3: Copy the file "map_sand.bin" from new game with sandbox changes into the folder of the game you want the sandbox changes in.

Is there a better method? Does this method mess up the month/days/time in the game?

Also I found a tool online and was curious what it exactly does.

I dont know about the map cleaner tool you linked since I have never used it so I can't comment on that.

However the steps you wrote above are correct and do work, they will ONLY affect your sandbox settings, I do it all the time in order to fine tune my settings, I do recommend you backup your save just in case (though I never have encountered issues doing this).

If you want to reduce the zombie population you will need to delete your zpop files (with their relavent cells), this will essentially reset the zombie pop for their respective cell, or alternatively if you want to increase the zombie population, you will need to have respawning turned on and the population will gradually increase to the desired amount, the peak day multiplier will also still be applied.

there's a mod in the workshop that allows you to change them post loading, just called change sandbox settings or something along those lines

Do you mean deleting ALL the zpop.bin files?

All the ones that have a cell coordinate in the name, so for example: "zpop38×24.bin" deleting that will reset the population for cell 38×24, these are only generated when you visit a cell. I can't remember how they are written exactly and i cant chack since I'm not at home, but i will when i can.

There's mods to change Sandbox settings mid save. You can use the presets to edit everything in the Sandbox options
The mod is called "Change Sandbox Options". It works very well, does exactly what it says.

I could just be doing it wrong but is this patched whenever I make changes it just gives me one error then resets.
