What is the fastest way to gain weight?
current value is 64 and I am worried about it killing my character if it gets much lower. I eat when the hunger icon reaches the 2nd stage but I still lose weight. I have been having him eat like crazy and not do much but it does not seem to be going back up. What is the best way to make it go up?

It's not about how much you eat, it's about how many calories you eat. You can eat salad all day and keep losing weight.

Cereal, peanut butter, ice cream, cans of oats, butter, margarine, lard, pasta, rice, dried beans. All non-perishable, all in the 1500-3000 calorie range, many of them will come with a lot of unhappiness so read a book afterwards.

Once you've regulated your weight back up to a healthy range, start including more things like meat and fish in your character's daily diet. Or just keep plenty of snacks on hand to supplement eating like a rabbit.

I am fairly late in my game so meat is fairly scarce.

From spawn?

Eat a whole pasta, and everything in fridge and freezer. Drink a whole orange soda and eat everything you run into.

Especially alcohol

That's what Fishing or Trapping is for.

Fishing is easiest, but Trapping is not bad.

Do you have Cabbage? If not, grow some (or, better yet, Carrots, but Cabbages will suffice)

Build 4 Trap Crates: https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Trap_Crate#Crafting

Set them up 75 tiles away in a Forest area from where you are and where you do not plan to be traveling around. You don't actually have to count 75 tiles, just count 8 times what you believe are 10 tiles (the reason I say 8 is because it's better to play it safe).

For bait, put Cabbage or Carrot.

The next day, after 5 AM and before 9PM, go check the traps, restock any that need bait, and collect your Dead Rabbit(s). Since you're severely underweight, just cook it straight up and eat the entire thing.

This is my current base. The circle represents the area where I set my traps. I loved this area because I can drive to it easily. Forests to the side of a highway are the most convenient spots IMO.

This was my first base. The forest behind my base was empty 99% of the time and I leveled up Foraging quite a bit by making the trip back and forth between that spot.

Controlling your weight is far easier if you use the minimal display mod because it shows your caloric level. Highly recommended. Meanwhile canned anything should do the trick.

You're not supposed to wait until a 2nd stage of hunger. Eat around 15 units of Hunger worth of food each time you get a status icon, and to gain weight eat food with more than ~600 calories - a lot more if you're planning to fight and spend stamina in other ways. Like have been said, Ice Cream, Peanut Butter, Box of Cereals etc. have high relative Calories, which convert to extra weight over time.

Food with very high fat content also have similar effect, but it have slower and more prolonged effect as fat converts into calories over time. Cooking with fish can easily get you into gain - just make sure to stop at the right moment.

Currently I have a freezer full of corn but its not very calorie dense. I have some weed (a mod) I am grown so that will help generate hunger. Currently have more corn in the ground (was going to use this batch for compost) and just planted a 5x5 area beets, carrots, wheat and potatoes. I only just started trapping catching a few birds and my base is a good distance away from a large body of water (Rosewood fire station) so fish is difficult. I have yet to break into my canned goods really and have like 10 crates so I guess I could start pulling some of the sweets out of there...

Well then you're boned. Because assuming you're that late and fishing and trapping somehow won't work (they should) you're probably out a canned goods too no? What do you need in that case? A miracle from the looks of it. But then again i've never gotten that far but i've never heard of any issues with fishing. Especially with how massive the river is.

Just like in RL living off only fruits and veggies isn't actually healthy if done incorrectly. Hopefully with npcs farming with crops and animals becomes way more sustainable food wise. Would be nice if farming had the more calorie dense foods like wheats used in cereal, oats etc.

Mayo, Raw Pasta, Butter, Lard, and Bourbon

Basically you want Calories and Fat.

Just be careful to not go overboard or you may find yourself shooting off like a rocket and become very overweight from having too many calories in your system and can't burn them off fast enough

Don't eat the cans directly

Use them in cooking to stretch the meals
