Question about m16
Is the m16 rifle in this game burst fire? I haven't gotten one yet but heard you can find them at the military checkpoint toward the big city which I'm just about to make my first expedition too, I ask mainly because I'd like to know if there's any reason to search for one.

If memory serves it toggles between semi and full auto.

But there's no point searching for one anyway, the M16 and M14 are both extremely high skill guns, we're talking level 8+ aiming or you won't hit a damn thing.

How did I get so lucky? I found an M-14 in a closet with 20 rounds of ammo. I was able to take out 12 zombies with it before I ran out of bullets and had to switch back to melee. Aiming skill was zero.

People seem to overstate how hard it is to work with guns in the game. Shotguns are practically magic wands, often killing multiple zombies with just one shell with a pattern that defies all logic. I've had pretty good results with handguns too. Even without aiming skill.

Take your time. Don't try shoot on the run. Fire at short range. Retreat if you start getting over-run or when you need to reload. It's not like being John Wick, but it isn't half bad.

M14s need Level 6 if I remember correctly for 95% accuracy

Meanwhile M16s need Level 11 for 95% accuracy

Maybe so but at 0 skill I got 60% and 60% is not half bad! Guns are a lot more powerful than reading what some people post here would lead you to believe.

Two things that people are probably forgetting to factor in is Panic and Recoil Delay.

The first will increase the chance that more than one shot is required to kill, the other will cause shots to miss.

When combined, along with low aiming skill, it's easy to see why people struggle with guns.

Also, like taxhelp mentioned, moving while aiming.

I admit I was guilty of all the above when I started using guns and I felt that they were too inconsistent.

I think it's because people are repeatedly mashing A-D-A-D-A-D-A-D like it's overwatch or something instead of holding still.

M14 is 6 skill for 80%, 9 skill for 95%. M16 is 9 skill for 80%, 11 skill for 95% (though M16 can be reduced by 1 with fiberglass stock).

Basically OP you got very lucky to land 60% of shots.

M-16 have changed the game for me.
Ive got tonnes of ammo and use full auto. I also have high skills.
Firing from a car you dont even have to properly aim. - there is an element of aim assit in the game with this weapon. Every zed that appears green will get hit. You can take down 25-30 zombies in a few seconds.
Ive now got 2,100 kills in just over a week.
Utterly lethal.
Just make sure you fill your car with lots of ammo boxes.

Good to know, I have an aiming skill of 6 or so from clearing out west point with a shotgun, but I was just wondering because if it was semi auto like all the other guns I'd come across it doesn't seem like it'd be any more use full than the m14 in that case but if it can go full auto that probably worth looking for one.

just bear in mind that full auto is not going to be as quick as you might think - this game does not yet have "real" burst fire in vanilla - only Brita's Weapons mod incorporates the rate of fire that you might expect

if you want to test out the M16 you can always load the game up in debug mode and quickly try out the auto fire so that you will know what to expect and won't be disappointed if you go on a long mission to find one

Thanks for the suggestion, you were definitely right it's much slower than expected but neat none the less, thanks again for your help.
