Do radio's have any purpose?
I noticed all the stations just transmit static. Are there any stations you can tune in or are they basically pointless?

One channel will be called the Automated Emergency Broadcast System and will tell you if the heli will come today, tell the weather up to 5 days ahead for stuff like storms, tell current & next day weather (rain, sunny, temp, etc), and a few day before electricity shut off you will be warned.

Extra useful to know if it will rain, so you can plant ahead and go loot.

If you enable the multiple chopper events then it is really useful. Elsewise regarding rain you can make barrels or just lay out 40 or so boiling pans or buckets and you can keep yourself ok. However regarding fogs, storms, hailstorms it is also very useful.

Also you can use the radios to get all them zeds distracted, though it might require some planning. (Example: I once lived in Rosewood, managed to clear one of the hotels, and lived upstairs. I placed the generator one side and it kept luring all the zeds under it, however some of them were stuck due to walls, with a radio set up over their head and placing it here and there i could navigate them towards the generator. Or if for some reason they did not get attracted you could use the radio to make another gathering point for them, making my "main" window exit and its surroundings empty and safe..)

Pretty useful to know if a tropical storm is happening in 4 days time. Also thick fog heavy rain heavy cloud coverage and different weather combos can significantly reduce exploration success / safety even during daytime.

They also give you a battery and electrical xp

As far as i know you can use different frequencies (the non hard coded ones) to comunicate with other players in MP if global chat is disabled and if you want to RP.

The part about planting crops before going away isn't about the lack of water in storage, but how you can count of the rain to water your crops while you are away.

In multiplayer we have music stations on the radio, although distance from the broadcast station is a factor. Could be a mod thing but it's pretty neat, the people running the stations take requests (as in all k-pop all the time...)

Nah, is just convenient, you can save a lot of time, in this regard he is right, but he never encountered draught yet apparantly.
(During winter there is very few rain and you cant melt snow, so in door farming tends to become tedious with the water, but when it rains you better stock up with buckets and such
also sometimes you can have on rare occasions a 14 day lasting draught)

There's none listed channels that appear more on the higher bands Walkie Talkies and HAM Radios use where you can hear survivors living their lives and giving more lore to the world after the media blackout but these do not last forever and you gotta find the stations.

Outside of that it's the Automated Emergency Broadcast. Used for knowing when Power will cutoff, Helicopter(s) are inbound and you gotta run/hide, and weather to know when it's good to go out, bundle up, ready the crops, or stay indoors and get some reading done

I think that is a mod, regarding the survivors. I know i used to see such a mod described and advertised, but i did not read in the dev posts that they implemented it. (Might be an oversight on my part though!)

No there's radio broadcasts in Vanilla

There's one where survivors are surrounded by zombies in an airport asking for anyone with guns to join them

then the radio advertises the same thing with a more sketchy tone and the files referring to them as Cannibals

Definitely going to try to find this as this is what I was hoping for! Thanks. :)
